Topic: most overrated alleged prog rock band Posted: June 02 2005 at 20:16 |
Who is the most overatted prog rock band (allegedly), for me it has to be Kansas, they are surely AOR nonsense, as are most big American groups. Money not musical ability seems to be the norm in the USA. Who next REO Speedwagon?

ELP they're good I admit it, but I think they aren't as legendary as some here choose to believe

How can you say Dream Theater is over-rated? Everybody's always bashing them. That's just ridiculous.

That can be a rather lengthy list, but a handful that spring immediately to
mind are:
-- Asia
-- UK
-- later day Genesis
-- Ozric Tentacles
-- Under The Sun
-- Madrigal
-- King Crimson (what is that stuff anyway?)
-- Spock's Beard

Nope, I don't. I've bought the albums, listened to them endlessly, trying all
the while to absorb and comprehend the body of work. But alas, it all
escapes me. I keep saying to myself, "Bruford left Yes for this??"
It's like they say: Different strokes for different folks. I guess my stroke
regarding KC is way out in left field.

Flowerchild, I'm with you ! King crimson are (most of the time) great. However, the guy did try so it's his taste.
I'm confused with this thread anyway. You got to be pretty much rated to be overrated. Now the most rated here are : Genesys, Pink floyd, Yes, King crimson, DT, Rush, Jethro Tull, Camel, VDGG, Gentle giant, Marilion, ELP & Porcupine tree. It got to be one of those.
Well, I do'nt know DT very well so I wo'nt say a word of them. From the rest - maybe Marilion ?
I'd rather speak of who is missing in that list (and ofcourse I do'nt know them all) like Renaissance, Moody blues, Kansas, Robert Wyatt.

- Dream Theater
- Mars Volta
- Porcupine Tree
- Marillion
- Spocks Beard
- Flower Kings
- Tool (if this band is prog the whole meaning of the word 'prog' is a joke )
... just to name the most obvious
