Hmm, apples or oranges? Seriously these two are almost too different to compare. But I think, I *think* I might vote for Zappa

Hmm, a musician I love or a band I haven't yet enjoyed...going to go with Zappa on this one (hint: he's a musician, not a band).

Not sure how these two relate but maybe that's not the point of this poll so strictly as a which do I like better Frankie wins 'hands downs on her knees wheelin' and dealin' !'

I like Neo prog a lot but not Marillion. So Frank gets my vote.

Love both, but Marillion means more to me than Zappa. Two of my favourite artists for sure, though.

My mind would say Zappa, but I've been more involved with Marillion during a decade when finding good music was not easy. Please Zappa's fans forgive me for my vote to Marillion.

If you are asking me, I think I have already said it. I'm for Marillion. I have only added that there's surely more skill and inventive in Zappa, but Marillion (of the Fish period) are in my heart. I think one should motivate a vote instead of casting it only, and in this case the motivation can't be technical.

If talking bands, then "The Mothers of Invention" beats Marillion by a long way for me. Frank Zappa beats any of the members of Marillion for me, and as an individual he beats the Marilion collective in every positive musical way I can think of (which is not to say that others will not be able to think of musical points where Marillion could beat Zappa). Marillion I find very musically unadventurous and uninteresting. I said it before in another thread, though I was told I had it wrong, that Marillion sounds far too AOR leaning (AOR meaning melodic rock in this sense) for my tastes. Admittedly, I haven't explored a large amount of Marillion because what I have heard has limited appeal, but there's even more Zappa I haven't heard, but I think I can safely say that Zappa was a far more eclectic/ varied artist musically. I like jazz very much, so Zappa's going to appeal more to me than Marillion. He's also incorporated Western Academic music very successfully (and I love Academic Music), he's more experimental/, plus he's much more fun. I do think him a more skillful composer than Marillion members. Weasels Ripped My Flesh, The Grand Wazoo, and Yellow Shark, for example, are all excellent albums in their own way, for my tastes. And I've been much more impressed with what I've seen of Frank Zappa live than Marillion. If anyone takes offence to any perceived sleights to Marillion, please recognise that I recognise that it's really a matter of taste and experience. If anyone can recommend some Marillion that they think will appeal to me, I'd appreciate it (youtube is often a great resource for recommendations). There are some bits and pieces of Marillion I like. And in case anyone rolls their eyes at this long post, I like it when people try to give reasons (even if if not really sufficiently informed) why they prefer one thing over another rather than just vote or just vote and post a name (that can lead to more discoveries and interesting discussion -- I rarely care about poll results, I'm more interested in what people have to say/ their impressions/ perspectives....). :)

Though I'm not that interested in the individual poll results, I am interested in understanding the workings of this competition. I have a request, could you please list the winners and losers for each round in the final, and maybe some commentary about how you went about coming up with contenders and the order? I haven't even followed how this competition is working/ the process you've used. I think it would have been good to create a list/ chart for the whole competition like UndercoverBoy did. Had you already figured which band would compete in this, and who they'd go up against, when you started this series, and knew how many rounds there would be? I think it is a bonus to give voters an idea of what to expect when creating a competition (sorry if you already did, but I missed it) and give updates at the start of each new round. That said, I once did a short series based on innovation without thinking things through in advance (just a few polls, and no final though).

Caps lock stuck? It is about popularity, he's merely been asking in this series which is preferred. I compared the two to an extent, by the way (compare/contrast).

I have bad eyes (soon to be lasered). What I do is increase the font size (not using the PA panel, though one could increase that for the text box, then decrease, but for the Firefox font default and with control panel). In my case, it's not so much that I need to be able to easily read what I write as it is to help me when reading others posts.

Thanks, but I have little problems reading text in the default PA settings as I use quite a large font (through Firefox settings and my Windows Control Panel) as my default. For Word I use a much bigger font --- I need to for work. That might help Darksideof, however.
