Topic: 2003 A Prog Odyssey (Part I) Posted: November 13 2012 at 13:16 |
Just thought i'd do 3 part series of polls on one of my favourite modern years. The top three(or more if there's ties) from these two polls will go on to the final to see what PA members think is the best of my favs from that year.
Yes i think there have been multiple polls on every year from the sixties up but i just thought this would be fun.

Feel free to vote even if you don't know them all. And yes that Tangent album is special. I'm a big Andy Tillison fan.

Hmmmm, although not quite my favourite Anekdoten album, `Gravity' still delivers the goods here. It's not as dark as the previous album `From Within', nor as emotional and draining as the follow up `A Time Of Day', but what works on there is generally still very exciting and varied.
Opeth's `Damnantion' a very tasteful second, though!
I LOVE the Tangent band, and although I own `The Music That Died Alone', I don't think I've ever listened to the CD the whole way through. I only got that one a few months ago in a second hand store, it was the only album by that band I hadn't bought up to that point, and to be honest I'm STILL making my way through their other albums I purchased earlier....Oh well, nice to have an emergency backlog of albums for a rainy day!

Well in hindsight i should have taken Anekdoten, i must admit i had a brain cramp thinking this was A Time Of Day instead of Gravity which might be my fav from them along with Vemod. Oh well that Damnation record will always mean a lot to me. Hard to explain how much it moves me really.
Man i remember those days where i'd have a whack of cds i hadn't even listened to. Right now i think i have 6 or so that i need to hear and review but i'm just not feeling it right now.

Think I'm going for The Sars Vulva today, although I could've gone with either Anekdoten or Mogwai.

Is this music too normal for you ? I guess The Mars Volta is far from being normal though. Glad to see you like Anekdoten.

All by itself Love that album too especially The Caterbury Sequence, and what a fantastic lineup of talent on this one.

Heheh nah, but I know what you mean. I have been listening to some strange prog during the last year or so. Conversely though, I've been getting back into some of the more melodic post punk and synth pop bands from the 80s at the exact same time, so I do get my fair share of 'normal'....

Oh crap - wait a minute!!
When I read the title, I was thinking `The Music That Died Alone' was the SECOND Tangent album - which is really `The Night We Drive Through'!! That's the one I've barely listened to!
I LOVE the debut album!! Yep, `The Canterbury Sequence' is killer, and the opening multi-part epic is a knockout too! Actually, the whole album is really rather good!!
Wow, I remember when they first came out, `The Tangent' were looked upon as something like `just another Flower Kings side-group'....As much as I still loved them, I'm really glad they've grown and developed into their own unique identity, truly Andy Tillison's baby!
