How long have you been in France?
Wait, are you even still there?

My coming to France was a pure act of destiny's irony. I've never cared for French and I "knew" English is going to be my main help for a better life. My benchmate from highschool was big into French, and the only one in our class doing French and German; I was even teasing him for not learning a "real" language. And now the irony: he's in New-York working IT, while I'm in Paris. And I had nothing to do with it; they're really lacking doctors here, and when my girlfriend sent her CV, they called her next morning and at the end of the call she was hired. One month after we were here. Previously to that, she had applied for a job in the UK and missed it only because she got a 7 at the IELTS test, instead of a 7.5. We were pretty upset then and we were set on applying next year too. We didn't even expect someone from France even responding us, and look where it got us... We aren't applying for the UK anymore, that's for sure.
I didn't try to improve my French so far because what I know lets me get around with street talk, but as we decided to settle here I'll be applying for jobs this month, which means I need to improve my French pronto. Wish me luck!

So you've been a kept man, eh? I could use French with you, but I'm fairly certain Canadian French won't get you anywhere in France What field are you in? Bye Lizzy! Cool to see you again.

Yeah, this is my current job: My main field is art history, though. Worst career decision possible. I think I heard Lhasa ( ) talking once in Canadian French and I had problems following, if I recall well. Or maybe she was drunk, you could never tell with her, she had a very peculiar, charming presence.

It's almost 13:00 here. But I define morning as the period of time from 0:00 to 23:59.

SaltyJon Challenge: If you can find me a free, legal Japanese Zheul album, I will listen to it in its entirety today.

I may end up disappointing you Rob; I can't think of any free JapaZeuhl, you may want to extend the challenge to all of the Shred members. I was actually just thinking of asking you if you'd tried out Art Zoyd though, since you like Univers Zero. Their albums are anything but free though (on the contrary, they're expensive Japanese imports). Wait! Grooveshark is legal, and there are (if nothing else), several Ruins albums there. Knowing how much you liked Koenji's vocals though, I'm a bit hesitant suggesting Ruins to you - there are only male vocals, but they're a bit more insane.

Do tell me where you got that lovely necklace. Yeah, I saw Lhasa opening for Tindersticks a couple of year back, but I don't recall that her accent was purely Quebecois. Wasn't she raised in Mexico or something? I think most "international" figures arising from here don't really sound like "normal" Quebecois anyway. Then tend to enunciate a lot more. And guys like Rufus Wainwright, Leonard Cohen, Win Butler, etc who speak French well, all have an English accent on it.

Well if you'd like, I could drop a link for a Ruins album here, and an Art Zoyd if you're interested - Grooveshark has them as well. Just say the word! (I haven't heard the Ruins album in question, but I've heard some tracks from it, at least part of the album is instrumental)

The necklace was a gift The thought that Lhasa's ethnic background and education might be the explanation for her accent did occur to me. She also spoke Lebanese too (her mother was half Lebanese). She was so wonderful. I envy you for seeing her.
