So you're saying you like Yes' pop more than Genesis?

This I can vote on!

Pink Floyd without hesitation.  A huge musical influence to me.  Yes and Genesis were very big as well but not huge.  There are so many memories of hearing Floyd music for the first time from Umma Gumma and Atom Heart Mother to DSOTM and Wish You Were Here.  I have seen Yes and Genesis twice each in concert.  I have seen Pink Floyd five times.

Pink Floyd!

Depends on the album. Yes has recorded more albums, and when you have more, as opposed to less, there rises...well, you know what I mean. You can end up with more crap. LOL

If you take it up to 1980 then its a dead heat between Yes and Genesis for me while Pink Floyd would only just scrape into my top ten favourite bands in that period.
Beyond 1980 I do find that Yes made some albums that I still want to listen to plus a superb DVD with orchestra. Floyd just became a pastiche of themselves and Genesis ended up making pop albums with some prog on them although Domino and Fading Lights were great late efforts admittedly.
My heart though always goes with Yes. Even if they did 'pop' it still had some weight to it. There are still some nice keyboards even on The Big Generator! In summation:
Yes> Genesis>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Pink Floyd

Agree up to a point Wink when you look at the progression in sound from the great  Yes--The Yes ALbum, Fragile, CTTE, Tales, Relayer, GFTO---no one in prog really comes close in the development of sound. Genesis however were more consistent song writers--but way less experimental.

This are the usually considered big 6

BUT

Of course that there are many bands that I would put right after Genesis, like Kansas, Anglagard, Steve Hackett, Magma, PFM, Banco, etc

There are even more I would place after Pink Floyd, like Triumvirat, Rick Wakeman, Focus, Par Lindh Project

If King Crimson was here

1.- Genesis
2.- Pink Floyd
3.- Jethro Tull
4.- ELP
5.- Yes
6.- King Crimson

I'm afraid you missed it.
Like 10 I would place before ELP

Like 20 more I would place before Yes

Like 100 I would place before King Crimson.

But that's my taste.

Iván
