Relayer. I like Hemispheres a lot too but it's no match for relayer imo.

Same here. Hemispheres is probably my favorite Rush album.

This 100%! It really is art out of electronic orchestration---Rush doesn't come close to the artistry of this record and I think they would admit it---as Getty Lee said he was blown away by Relayer.

I tend to think of relayer as a more wild version of Close to the Edge. Also, I think they flirted with the kind of music a little bit on ancient but relayer went in a more fusiony direction over all.

This one is really close, since I enjoy both albums a lot. My vote is for Yes, but just by a fraction.

Easily Relayer.

I have all the good Rush albums and they rule, but they were more proto prog metal for me than anything. Yes were just a completely different animal. They were progressive rock for me, and still are!

Difficult.

I'll go for Hemispheres. I have a longer relationship to that album, and there's nothing as annoying as Sound Chaser on it, and there's nothing as good as La Villa on Relayer.

However, The Gates of Delirium is a far superior epic to Hemispheres IMO, and that's half the album!!
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Hemispheres is a great album, one of their best 3 albums but I prefer Relayer overall.

I'm probably the odd man out, but with rare exception, I've never been able to get into Rush. Yes, on the other hand, is an all-time favorite of mine and Relayer is among my favorite albums.

Relayer.

Hemispheres is very enjoyable, pure, each and every moment rocks. But even then - at their proggiest - Rush vision and songwriting couldn't match abstract, once-in-a-lifetime storytelling of prime Yes. I think they (Rush) had great stretch of albums then, very listenable, witty, nicely laid out and so on - but as Frenetic Zetetic said, they are proggy and complex for metal/hard rock standards... not YES standards tho!

No surprises here.  Rush for me.  I love Yes, but Relayer is not one of my favorites from them.

Rush, like gates of delerium but overall I think the rush album is stronger. Plus I saw Rush 5 times around the time hemispheres came out so personal reasons swings it.

Relayespheres. Seriously, I voted Relayer, my favorite Yes album over Hemispheres, my favorite Rush album. Ying Yang

Only a Yes head will vote Relayer. Half of it’s filler
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Bits of Relayer make my teeth move about.  Rush just aren't in that exalted class AFAIC.

Ha ha. You could say the same about topographic oceans and for Rush you could say the same about Hemispheres or Caress of Steel.
