Well, I think that maybe you'll find my choices very odd, but I'm not to keen on obscure bands and unfortunately didn't listen to most prog releases mentioned here. My top 5:

1. Present - VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR

2. A Bigger Bang - THE ROLLING STONES

3. Mighty Rearranger - ROBERT PLANT

4. Octavarium - DREAM THEATER

5. In Your Honor - FOO FIGHTERS

I'd like to put BOB DYLAN's No Direction Home here, but this is only a compilation of previously unreleased material, not a "new" album in all senses of term.

The first one is very easy, it was and is the highlight of my year. The
second one was pretty easy as well, but for the rest I couldn't choose,
they are all good to great. To me these are 5 star albums.

1. Riverside - Second Life Syndrome
2. Opeth - Ghost Reveries

these are not in particular order, I would probably give three to four stars
for each one.

Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Volume 1
Dredg Catch Without Arms
Neil Morse - ?
Pallas - The Dreams of Men
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing
Shadow Gallery - V
Dream Theater - Octavarium
Sieges Even - The Art of Navigation by the Stars

Hmmm...well, it didn't say PROG top five, so I am taking it to mean our top five, period (which, of course, is soooo hard to really decide on), but, using my limited brainpower, I will say...

1. Sufjan Stevens: Illinois

2. Death Cab for Cutie: Plans

3. American Music Club: Love Songs for Patriots

4. William Shatner: Has Been (that's right, William Shatner!)

5. My Morning Jacket: Z

(I haven't been able to get the new Porcupine Tree yet and Kate Bush's album is not out yet)

If you like art of musicians, check my site (the music section) and tell me what you think! http://www.kenmeyerjr.com
