Oh, Inpraiseof. You poor, poor fool. You've fallen into Ian's trap.

You can tell a passing fan of Tull because they've heard Thick as a Brick here or there.

You can tell a fan of Tull because they've heard Thick, but can't figure out what it's about.

You can tell a Tull fanatic because they think they've figured out what it's all about.

Now, a Tull die-hard realizes that Thick was created when EVERYONE said that Aqualung was a concept album, but Ian kept denying it, so finally to, please everyone, he created Thick as a Brick.

Thick as a Brick is meaningless. That's the point! It's ole Uncle Ian's way of saying, "Oh, you want a concept album, eh? I'll give you a concept album! I've give you the mother of ALL concept albums!!!" Why do you think it's credited to that 12 year old?

Of course, there's also the psychotic fan of Tull. Those are the poor souls who understand that Thick is a put on, but still believe that it has some deep inner meaning.

...Seriously now Ian, it's about the death of childhood, right? Where the hell is Biggles? The poet and the painter? Dead of childhood, right? Throw me a bone!!!

Inpraiseof?
I believe it's inpraiseoffolly...

I guess I must be psychotic, because I understand that it was a put-on, but it's certainly not meaningless...

And it's credited to an 8 year old...  passing fan of Tull for you...

And I wouldn't want to be a Tull die-hard, anyway, considering that that would require liking Under Wraps, a clear-cut case of the excrement hitting the air conditioning (to quote Kurt Vonnegut).

And there is no difference between a fan of Tull and a fanatic.  Fan is simply short for fanatic.  That also makes passing fan a paradox, since you can't have a passing fanatic.

Therefore, because you spelled my name wrong, I reserve the right to disregard your entire post.

By the way, Whist, I like your new signature more than your old one.

My interpretation wasn't so deep.  Rather than picking apart line-for-line, I always just thought that Pt. 1 was the naive, innocent view of the world held by a child and that Pt. 2 was the bitter view held by an adult.
Wistler does have a point, TaaB was partially just mocking concept albums, but Ian Anderson put some meaning behind it too.  It was on Passion Play that he really threw everything he had lyrically, creating one of the greatest albums in prog.

Er, the Five Levels of Fandom (copyright) is something I invented a while ago. Go ahead 'n tell yer friends!

And, seriously, what is 12 but the new 8? Ya gotta keep up with the times!

If you *must*, shorten it to 'folly...

By the way, my new interpretation is that Anderson just wants people to know that dense people don't float.
