In my order of preference :

1. Half star rating

2 Half star rating

3. Half star rating

4. (for a change) : like Hughes brilliantly mentioned, I am also in favour of a change in the the reviewer profile. When you click on a genre, let's have a link to the reviewer's reviews in that genre not the definition of the genre (which doesn't have any reason at this point since we can get the definition on the home page).

5. Indicate the percentage of reviews per genre in the reviewer profile (informational and cosmetical)

But if half star ratings were made, all reviewrs would have to go back and change their ratings/reviews to acommodate.

And yes, linking to a reviewer's reviews of a specific genre would be a great feature, just a link to the genre page is pointless, really.

You wouldn't have to do anything if you don't want to. Anyone who doesn't want to change their ratings can leave them the same. Those in favor of the rating changes would gladly go back and the change their ratings, which probably wouldn't take that long as it is.

If half star ratings were made a possibility, one would have to go back and change some reviews for the sake of accuracy. There are plenty of albums I've reviewed that I would have preferred to use a half star rating on, but it would be a great hassle to go back and change that now.

the practical problem with adding a half star is.... it isn't a problem ....

how does that improve the site per Bob's request...  I think it is clear that the site has bigger issues than making  an extra half star available just to make a few existing people here more happy. In comparison to the work that will have to be done to DO it. And my point from an earlier post stands.... how long before  those who call for this want a 20 point rating scale....  it has always been 5 ... just leave it. My two cents... and see this thread crashing and burning on this topic... it has another thread already... this isn't the place for it.  That is tweaking the site... not improving it.

Here are some things which should have an attention
  1. Collab pages - the subgenre table beside the grafics - the links refer to the subgenre pages - they should list the reviews by subgenres.
  2. Album pics - please revert stretching to 300x300 pixel because the majority is added with 200x200
  3. Band pages - please use a placeholder for a missing band picture
  4. Reviews display - the tag <p> paragraph should work like <br> break - all my reviews are displayed as one paragraph now ...

There is also a problem with the table columns (jump to the page)

For me it's ok:

1. still there are problems in table columns - check out 'piper at the gates of dawn' reviews, in 'show all 259 reveiws' section - http://www.progarchives.com/album-reviews.asp?id=1433

2. still, paragraphs are lost in some of the reviews (same page, check for instnace joolz - shelket reviews - i didnt manage to copy it here)

3. at least the 'null' assingment from yesterday is fixed now (thanks)

4. I see that not all non-collaborators reviews are shown in the main page - i assume its not a bug? only the 'latest' as you say in the header?

5. As i wrote to Bob privetly, this new design is INSULTING, and it makes unjustify segregation between 'Collaborators\Experts', to 'Members' (i use the terms in the headers). Am i the only person who feel that way?

(8.) An observation for the future policy: I know this is not the thread for the site policies but this is itchin' me: the site would be much more comprehensive if in the future, some collaborators will be added who are area-experts rather than genre-experts. (no, I'm not sublimely suggesting myselfLOL) Why? Well, symhonic or post rock specialist have a wide knowledge of sympho or post rock as a whole, but if those collaborators are from Mexico, I doubt they will know all the bands from the Russia and vice versa. On the other hand, a person from Poland with wide knowledge will easier add more Polish bands of all subgenres here, right? Take Seyo, for example, he added 30 bands to the PA, he is a special collab without a "title", but he surely deserves to be "Yugoslavian prog expert"!

Embarrassed thanks although I never really bothered about my missing "specialisation"... But I share your view about possibility that some people feel they are regional/geographical experts rather than "genre experts" (including myself, of course...) LOL

Regarding the vulgar or "vulgar" words, it is  sensitive of course, but IMO sometimes certain unpleasant words must be displayed as such if they consitute a part of the art work (titles of albums, songs, etc...). In creative arts no censorship should be implemented in principle... This should include our reviews too!

Of course it is different in communication like in the forums, but I guess it is clear already.

Well, in another forum I sometimes post on, they have a censor that is even stricter than ours... Whenever a mixture of spirits is mentioned, you'll see it spelled as '****tail'!LOL

1. half star rating (more accurate)
2. last 100 reviews option (if one logs on rarely)

Yes, I completely agree about forums and similar types of communication, and I would be very strict there!

But I was stressing the different situation where a "vulgar" word or expression (or image, after all) is a constituent part of the work of art and IMO that should include our reviews, as literary works by a creative author. A serious and dedicated writer will never use those words extensively or deliberatively, but in certain moments an expression needs to be spelled out entirely, no matter whether it is considered polite or not.

Just as some album covers contain pictures of nudity, some song titles or lyrics contain words "f**k" or "sh*t" and that's the fact. When I write a review I need to describe that fact and I don't wanna see erased (f**k) letters of these words in my work! Ouch

I hope you understand what I mean... Wink
