However, as Micky said, the album has definitely fewer ratings than those in the "HP Top 20", and this is what is keeping it out of the list. Personally, I would favour a different way of choosing key albums for subgenres - namely, having specialist team members draw their own lists, instead of relying on the average ratings.

I suggested that in the collab area before X-mas.. and got zilch for postive replies...

P.S. I just listened to the streaming track on this site and actually found it quite enjoyable, which leads to the next question, where do I find anything else from them?

High Tide have enjoyed cult status for a long time in Europe - I remember hearing their praise in the early Eighties, when I used to listen regularly to quality rock radio stations (ah, those were the daysWink...). As to having been influential, I think they definitely were, though probably not in the same visible way as other acts.

Their first two CDs were recently remastered with some bonus tracks, and I've seen both of them in a mainstream music store I visit quite regularly. Unfortunately, I think they may be harder to find in the US, unless you have access to some speciality shops, or else order them on the web.

I got my copy through Amazon.com here in the states
http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Shanties-High-Tide/dp/B0000085Z0/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1201617860&sr=1-1

I still think that since the original poster thought the album was "brilliant" is the reason why they want it to be included as some sort of mile stone album. I don't think you can honestly say "Oh, this album sucks, but it's a milestone album". And the fact that there doesn't seem to be overwhelming support for it's inclusion either, is in itself an indictment on how much a milestone album it is. As another poster said, "it's a cult album".

you can definitely say this. just look at "Psychedelic Underground" by Amon Düül. that album sucks big time, and I think many will agree with that (the album has an average rating of 2.84). but it was THE key album for Krautrock, if you see it in its historic context. it's importance can't be overestimated.
that it is a "cult album" only means it is loved by many but known by few. it has nothing to do with the album being a milestone at all, and definitely not the way you define "milestone".
when Friede and I joined this site High Tide were not even in the archives yet; they were only added after I suggested them. which only shows how little known they are
