Yes indeed, singing SOAD lyrics has to be one of the funnest things you could do. Really great intelligent band, don't see why people hate them so much.

A while ago, the BBC in the UK made an hour long documentary on the band which was well worth a watch; the interviews with Tankian revealing his depth of feeling toward getting recognition of the Armenian Genocide in 1914/1918 (a subject I've only heard from musicians before from Diamanda Galas)

Yes - but they'd already made us suffer the horrors of Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe , was Union really necessary?

Aaaanyway - back on track - I'm looking forward to receiving these two System Of A Down albums almost as much as I'm looking forward to playing them to Peter

Both albums now arrived & as it was the first to drop on my doormat, I've been listening intensively to Hypnotise this weekend.

Didn't know what to make of it at first (Malakian takes a lot more of the vocals than on Toxicity, so changed the vibe a bit), but once I got where they were coming from I couldn't stop listening to it.

I know I should have listened to Mesmerise first, but if it's anywhere near as strong as Hypnotise, I'll be a happy man.

King By Tor: Many thanks for the recommendation

Ahhh! Good to hear!

Personally I prefer Hypnotize, I find it stronger on the whole as an "album", while I find that Hypnotise puts more efforts into the individual songs. Of course, that means that Mesmerize has some of their best songs like "Question!" and "Holy Mountains". Of course, Hypnotize has "Solder Side", which may well be their all-time best achievement in my eyes.

Putting it on now, actually

you're welcome! Glad I could be of service.

I think "Question!" is their all-time best achievement personally, and I prefer Mezmerize. It's a bit more fun. I do love both, though. Glad to see some positive discussion about these guys! It seems, however, that we're having a tough time naming the correct album titles, haha.

Question! Is an amazing track. I think from Mesmerize I prefer Sad Statue. But like I said, I will always stick with Soldier Side as my favorite track of all time of theirs, although others do come close - The Metro, Inner Vision, Toxicity, Aerials, War, Peephole, Atwa, Deer Dance (and the list goes on... )

What? No mention of Holy Mountain?

Have to admit that came on the iPod this morning on the way into work & ended up being played three times at silly volume - Jeez knows what the other drivers thought of this middle aged guy singing lustily along to the chorus... Liar! Killer! Demon!!!

+++sigh+++

What sort of behaviour is that for a 45 year old?

The only thing I don't really like about the Mezmerize/Hypnotize albums is that mixed in with some really great tunes you get a ton of formulaic similar sounding songs. "Attack", "Dreaming", "Tentative", "Stealing Society", and "Sad Statue" are all pretty much the same song and I can rarely remember which one is which when I hear one on shuffle. However, most of it is really good IMO.
