Martigan's Vision is not only the best so far of this running year but one of the best albums ever.
Good second so far is Nostalgia by Satellite and I expect a lot of Riverside's latest and maybe DT (I play it by the book so wait for the official releases).
I will also check out Hourglass, Ageness, Anubis Gate, Aurora Project and IQ before long. And maybe Jordan Rudess, Blind Ego and Argos as well.
Gazpacho was disappointing to me.

Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion

The actual product does not have that cool visual effect, though.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

For me, it's between Martin Orford's 'The Old Road' (that is 2009 isn't it? ) and the new Astra album, 'The Weirding'.

Both great albums.

Having said that though - the best new release I've heard overall this year is Leonard Cohen's 'Live in London' - faultless

Hahaha! Dang it! I've been making that mistake repeatedly. I can't believe two albums have been released whose titles have the "octa" prefix.

1. Am I alone in having heard  Jono's latest?

2. Secret Chiefs 3/Traditionalists: Le Mani Destre Recise Degli Ultimi Uomini
3. Mastodon
4. Maudlin of the Well
5. Bat For Lashes

So far the rest has been rather dissapointing (especially Zombi and Marissa Nadler). Secret Chiefs 3's latast wasn't as fantastic as it should be either, but its still Secret Chiefs 3.

I just waste a lot of my salary on these (as well as receive promotional copies of albums), and that's no the complete lilst - there are 30-40 albums more I heard this year, but were not as remarkable as there.

Unfortunately, my work doesn't leave me much time to participate in PA as much as in the past anymore, so not many reviews and threads that I have started recently (and this will last for at least until the end of this year).

Anyway, I keep track of recent and upcoming albums and make a priority list of what I want.

There are still many more from this year that I want (and will get), like Juno El Grande that Rocktopus mentioned.
There are also upcoming album from Syzygy (just released and now available on their website), Phideaux and others coming soon.

^ thanks! I've noticed though that you copied the list manually from the PF chart ... you can also use an automatically generated image:

http://progfreak.com/srv/sig/Badabing666/custom-maxlines_20-topalbums_year2009_prog.png

I know, I should document those features ... this weekend I'll change the charts page so that you can copy the link from there.Embarrassed
