This thread smells a bit like the old "Girls? In my Prog?" thema which rises from times to times in the forum. It reminds that, in high school, I knew a girl rather fond of alternative rock (think Garbage and that stuff), but which enjoyed Kraftwerk and covered Deep Purple's "Child In Time" with her band. I also should have talked a bit more with another girl who told me she liked progressive rock, especially Mike Oldfield.

The only overlap in musical tastes with my girl is Santana and not all Santana of course.

There are no rules. My girlfriend is into blues, hard rock and AOR and she really dislikes prog, except for Pink Floyd. Eric Clapton is indeed her God. Since she's into Dire Straits, I tried some mild Tull as well as some radio-friendly prog, but she simply doesn't like it. When I want to annoy her, I play the most brutal avant rock stuff in my car stereo. To my surprise, she liked The Residents a lot!

I just realized, the title asks which is "the girl's" favourite prog band. The way it's said sounds like he's referring to females as some sort of animal.

My girlfriend likes Phideaux. She sings Crumble a lot. xD
She's also a fan of the Decemberists, and random other bands here and there catch her fancy, although never enough for her to listen to when I'm not around.

Genesis, Collins era maybe? |
Wow, I would almost consider this a sexist remark. My girlfriend hates Collins era Genesis, she thinks it's sh*t just like we do. Women aren't stupid and they don't just like sappy ballads 'n sh*t. i would say that just as many, if not more men like what we consider to be poor music over women. My girlfriend listens to the following prog bands: Isis OSI Opeth Mars Volta Rush Nightwish Jethro Tull (her favorite being Heavy Horses) Klaatu Tiles Mastodon 3 (the modern one) Coheed & Cambria Porcuoine Tree + Steven Wilson Radiohead (from Kid A onwards) Sleepytime Gorilla Museum Pink Floyd + Syd Barrett Solo Traffic The Decemberists So I'm actually quite offended by the ignorance in the OP. Come on prog people... this is why over half of you have never been with a woman.

Yes, these kind of threads seem to be created by Calvin, unfortunetaly not moderated by Hobbes.
And, of course, I'm talking about the comic "Calvin & Hobbes", not a philosophical dialogue between Calvin and Hobbes. Got it?
