no the two albums sound miles apart to me, despite the obvious connection; Kings is good but Hem is otherworldly, probably their finest moment

The albums ae related on a number of levels. The obvious link is Cygnus, but both albums reflect the spirit of the band at the time. I've heard Geddy Lee say they were all reading alot of sci-fi at the time, and this was reflected in the conceptual and 'proggy' approach to their song writing that spanned these two albums. I like both, pretty much equally, although Hemispheres has slightly better production...and Lees keyboards are slightly more in tune...

These two albums marked the great starting of Rush climax, even it's too difficult to decide I guess Hemispheres would be the best

Both are my favorite Rush albums and I really like the Cygnus duology.

Both recorded at Rockfield.. Damp, cold and mouldy if i remember right!! Farewell to kings has a special place for me when it first came out in my early -mid teens; more focused, more energy..we sat around going 'will this blow Zepplin out the sky???'.. Hemispheres is great but there are a few cracks there.. not in the playing of course (as tight as ever) and 'the Trees' is the best but you can feel the hyper- ness of being tired, slightly tense from exhaustion and a little vague in direction and material. don't quote me but i think this is what they alude to on the new film/DVD.. and out of this came the tighter but more relaxed, focused 'permanent waves'... what a band!!! They just make me grin all the time when i listen to 'em!!

that's interesting, maybe it's that tension that I like .. and I agree PW is one of the greats, an almost perfect record
