Sun Ra: proto-avant prog

   I wonder that Sun Ra isn't in Proto Prog, because Proto Prog section without Sun Ra is like unsalted pistachios. 
That huge influence on Canterbury scene is evident. From where the bands as Soft Machine, or Gong if you like, get those influences? Directly from a deep space to their minds for composing Space Rock songs  ? They just learned from 60's acts as Sun Ra, then their own great talents made them able to create new ideas for their own music and that is that. BTW, a nice version of Space Is The Place:
