You could also keep an eye out for the band "Project Object", which also performs Zappa songs exclusively. I think they're just as good as ZpZ and would be a much cheaper ticket. Ike Willis (main FZ vocalist from '78-'88) sings and plays guitar for the group, they often have other former Zappa players as guests, and my friend Andre' Cholmondeley is the leader of the group and lead guitarist. So obviously I'm biased, but they really are excellent. They still tour from time to time.

I just got a flyer for something called "Business Analyst Boot Camp". I have a mental picture of a spittle-emitting sergeant screaming at me to project scenarios for different business strategies.

I saw Zappa Plays Zappa when they opened for Dream Theater in 2009. Very obvious set list, very few surprises, but they sounded great and put on a good show.
I imagine Project Object band has a bit more of a varied set list.

ZpZ has changed up its setlist for each tour, as far as I know, but Dweez mainly stays in the 70s material. In any event, it's aimed at least as much at winning new Zappa fans as it is pleasing old ones. Project Object is a little more geared towards the established fan, a bit more eclectic and a LOT more spontaneous. Dweezil treats Zappa's music like he would classical music -- play the notes on the page; or as it often happens, replicate the sound of the album (not an easy task). Even the ad libs and jokes are obviously scripted. When I saw them, and they performed the JABFLA version of "Call any Vegetable", I was kind of turned off when Dweezil went into the same "It's f--- great to be alive!" speech that Frank had done just off the cuff in the original live version. I thought that was kind of weak. Still, Dweezil's band is always extremely well rehearsed, and probably the closest thing to actually seeing a Zappa show. Or rather, a carbon copy of a Zappa show that's already happened. P/O seems to just let it fly and see what happens. In doing so, they make the occasional mistake, but that's a small price to pay for a real knee slapper of a show. They have fun and so does the audience. And sometimes, something really amazing happens that no one expects.

It's stormy here, all right. I think the tornado danger has passed, but there may be some flooding. I'm about to drive home, so I guess I'll find out soon.

It seems as though we have had the second coming of Noah's Ark here with all of the rain that we have had lately, but at least it wasn't stormy; just lots of rain.

I'm kind of bummed. I wanted to listen to Renaissance's album Illusion on Spotify, but the track Past Orbits of Dust is not available. I thought that I would just listen to it on YouTube but it isn't available. Because the song is 14 minutes long, you can't just buy the song for 99 cents on the download sites; it is an album only purchase. I may look to see if they have the vinyl at one of my local record shops.
