Rush. A favourite and I saw the band 4 times during that tour. Still no live version though. Tull a worthy runner up and another great album.

If you do a poll with Rush in it on this forum they will always win. That's one of the first things I learned when I joined this forum.

Depends on the album. Also there is strong competition. I am just surprised that's all.

Depends on the album. Also there is strong competition. I am just surprised that's all.

The album is often irrelevant, as people often vote for the band they like, even if it’s not an album they enjoy so much by the band, when confronted by a whole heap of albums they don’t like or don’t know.

From your perspective, there might be strong competition, but from mine there is barely any competition. Not for me, personally, as there’s plenty in your selection that I like as much, or more, than Rush (and I voted for Zyma, by the way). But for the masses that stick to the more well-known and mainstream prog bands and artists and albums, Rush is the obvious go to in this poll. Though I know you’re not a fan of the term, Rush will be the no-brainier option for a lot of people.

But even if there were more options that might have taken votes (Hackett, UK, Wright, etc.) I think Rush would still have run away with the win, because Hemispheres is one of their most loved and celebrated albums. Before a single vote was cast, when I saw this list I knew Rush would win by a huge margin...

I do like Rush, I own most of their albums.
This is an albums poll so my only hope people vote for the album and not for the band.
And yes, I believe Rush's album has some serious competition in this poll. Silly me! Tongue

Rush with honourable mentions to Manfred Mann's Earthband and National Health.

To add some more proof that 1978 was a good year I would suggest Indexi's Modra Rijeka.

Not at all silly. As I said, from my perspective there is strong competition, too.  But based on what I have observed over the years in this forum, what you and I might consider strong competition is not at all the same as what most people who vote in polls might consider strong competition.

I like Rush, too, and I have all their studio albums (though I probably wouldn’t, if I hadn’t bought them as box sets). There are some Rush albums I pretty much never play, so little do they do for me. But others are firm favourites. And Hemispheres is just one of those albums that almost everyone and his dog seems to love - so, regardless of the competition, or the strength of the competition, I think it was always going to run away with the win in this poll. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Many good albums here, but between Rush and Bruford and Manfred Mann (and Saga and UK) I choose Ange - Guet-apens! The last of a tremendous good album run...
