If I cared about what other people thought about the music I listen to I would have stopped listening to prog a long time ago (especially Gentle Giant and VDGG.) None of my friends listen to symph or old prog like me. They think it's ridicules music, so whether it's Genesis, ELP, Gentle Giant, or Yes most people would make fun of it anyway. The day you start caring about what others think about what your listening to is the day that you REALLY limit the prog bands that you listen to.

<<Marillion's about the only one of the bigger bands that I think is horrible.>>
You need to give 'em another listen then. The music is just too friggin' brilliant.
I do like Yes; however, as a prog fan I felt the need to get some King Crimson. I just can't grab a hold of them like the majority can. They're a band who I really wished I liked; however, some of their discs just stall. I bought Discipline a few weeks ago and it felt like it took forever.
The long and the short of it is I just don't like weird sounds in my music. I never have. I'm a huge Pat Metheny fan, but he sometimes has little clanks and clunks here and there and I find myself getting bored.
I've also tried both Riversides and it's metal to these ears. That might be good for most of you, but I like my music more metal free. Dream Theater is the exception. I also steer away from bleak, 'woe is me' music. Riverside are just too depressing for me. Again, I wish I liked them, but I don't.

I respect all opinions... I don't like Tool- I don't like Dream Theatre - I don't like Britney Beers... oh, sorry, Spears - I don't like fetuccini - I don't like Tom Cruise's movies (except Legend) - And I deffinetively don't like sunny days... If you don't like Yes or King Crimson, that's ok...

CTTE - I love the lyrics to this album, they do make sense to highly intelligent people.
KC - ITCOTCK- This album is boring to me i only can tolerate Epitaph. Don't like greg lake's voice
although i think he sings better with KC. ELP are noisey wahh waahh keyboard sound.

Never give up with a band .
King Crimson is my favourite band as VDGG.
First time I listened VDGG did not like them at all. Thought it was too pompous music for me, but they sounded different there was something special in their music. Then decided to listen their first album. I loved it. Now VDGG is one of my top 5 bands.
Rush has some interesting music, but can't stand Geddy's voice. Anyway, I can now watch their DVD!!! Dream Theatre another impossible band. The most overrated band ever!!! Gave up with them, but nevermind absolutely no major interest. If I want to listen some great Prog metal, I spin my Threshold, Anathema, or PT's Deadwing albums

YES are going to create a special song for you: "GO TO HELL!, GO TO HELL!, WE HAVE A LOT OF DOLLARS AND WE LIVE LIKE WE WANT!, SO, GO TO HELL!; GO TO HELL!...just kidding. I'm actually bored with YES, I use to hate them, then I started to enjoy them, then, they just bored me. I'm into the Kate Bush side now, I almost never touch the YES albums, so I'm for going to hell as well...

How can you not like Michael Giles??? |
Its the sound of the drums I'm not keen on.The production makes them sound very odd to my ears.I don't have any problem with Giles who is a very fine drummer.

That being said, I'd be curious to know what, aside from Jon's rediculously cryptic and grammatically incorrect lyrics, you dislike about Yes so much as to proclaim them to be "so incredibly bad" before legions of ardent Yes fans.

There are bands which I have problems, I mean I do not listen to them as good as many say: Tool, Stramonio, Rhapsody (I just can't stand them, too repetitive), Radiohead.

Amongst the big names: Rush, Marillion, KC with A.Belew ... I have given up these ones.I can't stand The Wall either, despite my love for P.Flkoyd. CTTE and In the Court are amongst my all time classics.Since Progrock is not a real genre, I find opposite extreme feelings quite understanding.

What's the problem? You're entitled to like or dislike whatever you want. Taste is an extremely individual thing, and it applies to any art form. To give you an example, I don't like St Peter's Basilica (I'm from Rome, so I know it quite well), as I find it too grandiose and somewhat soulless - but this doesn't stop people from all over the world from flocking there and loving it, or art critics from describing it as a masterpiece.
Back to music, CTTE was my first Yes album, and it was love at first hearing. "Relayer", on the other hand, did not impress me too much, and I've hardly ever listened to it for a number of years. Marillion's "Misplaced Childhood" is widely held to be their masterpiece, but it bores me to tears. I've tried to get into Dream Theater without success (though I rather like "Images and Words"). I find John Wetton a competent singer, but not the wonder vocalist that many think he is.... The list could go on and on. However, it's not a problem for me, because that's how things are - we are all different and like different things, thank heavens for that!
