Even though Supper's Ready is widely regarded as one of progressive rock's ultimate moments, I still voted that it was underrated. The reason is that although it's been praised, it's not been praised enough. The song has everything a good prog epic is supposed to have; Beautiful melodies, intricate rythm and pace changes, complex structure, phantastic instrumental work and a dazzling display of technical musical abilities. This alone make's it worthy of its praise. BUT, what this song also has, that I don't think has been accounted for enough in this praise, is its unique theatrical approach. It's not the only theatrical work of progressive rock, but it is one of the most extreme and individual around. Gabriel's different voices, his role playing in the studio (forget the live version with Phil Collins. The man is a good singer, but he's clearly uncomfortable with this phantastically complex theatrical song) is so unique in the history of rock, that I think the song should have had an even greater status. This song (and a few other of the sort, from Selling England By The Pound and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway) is what really shows Gabriel's genius, and is what separates Genesis in the Gabriel era from "the rest of the bunch" (meaning both the rest of Genesis' output, but also the rest of the prog bands).
This song belongs in heaven.

Wonderful, but not underrated. Perhaps a bit overrated even. Doesn't matter to me though, I still love it.

Good, but not my favourite Genesis track.

I don't think it's their best work. I think it's really really good, but it doesn't hold me the same way as say "mad Man Moon" or "Firth of Fifth" do. And for me it's not quite as good as some other long epics - not that length is the only yardstick to measure a prog classic by!

Not even "It didn't do much for me", but "It doesn't do anything for me". After many listenings I still fail to find any interesting moment in this piece.

Well... that's fine talk coming from the moderator of a prog-rock website; your post has been reported to Tony R, so you may expect the termination of your moderator's status to be actioned without delay.
However - you could, of course take the more honourable option...
I'm sorry Raffaella, but such opinions have no place here. I will miss you, but...
