I like Tool but Pain of Salvation has hands down done so much better. Sure, Tool has "Lateralus" but Pain of Salvation has at least four albums just as good.

. . . whats with all of these polls people create that i cannot vote in?!! seriously, the last four or five of these ive checked out have led me close to a brain anyurism. PoS happens to be one of my favorites. but so is tool! i think at different times i would have voted differently, depending on my mood. right now im leaning towards tool but knowing that for 4 or five straight years i would have gone the other way holds me back. its Still sooo close... seriously people, make some easier polls. im refusing to vote.

Tool with no hesitation. The cornerstone band of prog metal.
POS is good, but a little too pretensious for my tastes.

Tool, I thought this was going to be a rape in Tool's favor. This is slightly sickening, actually. POS... really suck, I don't see why people can't see that.

After Scarsick I'll take any band over POS, including Tool.

BE is a masterpiece. No contest really. Tool is OK, PoS are quite good (although a bit inconsistent)

PoS man! Really, I've only heard 1 weak album of theirs (okay, Scarsick wasn't exactly weak as much as a tragedy/comedy). And BE is something wicked, honestly, I love that thing.
Not to knock Tool but AEnima is the only one I really like to listen to a lot, there's just something about their other stuff that isn't as memorable.
and of course, Gildenlow's voice is one of the best in modern music, which helps a bunch too!

Pain of Salvation have so many good albums with distinguishable songs. Tool take 5 years to make the same album again.

Both are great bands, but Tool just doesn't have the same epic feel and move me like POS does.

Tool. The one Pain of Salvation album I bought (Remedy Lane) did absolutely nothing for me - gave it a few listens, now it collects dust.

I really like PoS(with the exception of Scarsick),and think they are a superb band. But I don't care if they have a bigger or stronger body of work, they just don't move me like Tool's music does.
So Tool for me. |
This pretty much sums it up for me. Tool don;t have as large a body of work simply because of the long breaks they take between albums, but the few records they have released are true masterpieces.

Horse shit. They only take a year to actually make an album, the rest of the time they are doing other things. Better than trying to release a masterpiece every blessed year, often to no avail.
HOWEVER, "Remedy Lane" is one of the greatest records I have ever heard . . . it;s just not as good as "Lateralus".
Sorry, didn't mean to sound like an asshole there, it's just that it burns me up everytime someone makes the assumption that Tool actually takes five years to make an album, when they have said time and again that this is not the case.

Haha this is a joke. Pain of Salvation. Tool is some of the worst stuff I have ever heard. I still can't make it through one of their albums...including Lateralus which I tried getting into since its release. Monotonous crap.

Ha ha, yes, please.
There are few things more embarassing than getting that worked up over a poll on the internet. If you can calmy discuss, or provide examples why you dislike/like a band, that's wonderful, but if you can't even do that, you're just going to ruin the whole thread.

I'm disappointed - neither of these players are avant-garde! Al di Meola.
haha i know. but the poll itself is avant-garde
