Jon Anderson and James LaBrie will be the clearest vocals in my ear. But, I think their skills is too high. So, i will introduce Apple pie lead vocl Vartan Mkhitaryan as the clear vocalist that 'down to earth'

Michael Sadler of Saga for me. Just picked up 10,000 Days last week and that voice still sounds crystal clear.

Peter Hammill's performance on Refugees is about as pure as i've heard.

A few of the harder-voiced singers are capable of delivering surprising purity, such as Roger Chapman on Children and My Friend The Sun.

Alright! I get to agree with Iván today. Spot on. Particularly amazing is actually watching him sing. He does not look like the kind of guy that would produce that amazing sound from his voice.
And I can't believe James LaBrie is getting thrown around in this conversation.

I don't know if he's already been mentioned, but Daniel Gildenlow from Pain of Salvation has a pretty amazing voice. His voice is very dynamic and fits beautifully with the intruments very well.

Hammill indeed DOES fit, but definitely not on all songs, and rarely with Van der Graaf Generator. there are, however, many songs in his solo repertoire where he sings with a wonderfully clear and really beautiful voice. but of course there is also the other side of Hammill, when he is anything but pure and clean. actually I think metal and a pure clean voice don't go together; it's like putting strawberries into mustard sauce. but to each their own Edited by BaldJean - June 19 2008 at 01:10 |

agreed - his vocal on Refugees, Man-erg and House with no Door includes some of the most beautifully pure singing i've heard in a rock music context.
