So here's a question, I hear a lot of good things about "The Decemberists" what are they like and where should I start if I was to try to pick up something by them?

The Decemberists are wonderful folk rock music. The debut is excellent, but lacks progressive elements (with the exception of two tracks). The second album is so-so acoustic music. The third album is very, very good (same as the debut for me).
Where they shine progressively is with The Crane Wife, which simultaneously contains their simplest and and most progressive moments ("The Island" is brilliant) and The Hazards of Love, which is a rock opera and my album of year thus far.
All of the albums are four star and above except for Her Majesty. I recommend the latest two, but the debut hits me on a visceral lever.

Tom, start with
The Hazards Of Love then get
The Crane Wife. I fell instantly in love with
The Hazards of Love and cannot recommend it enough. I have yet to get any of their earlier offers but I expect to become a full-fledged fanboy by the end of the year.
As for the poll, unfortunately I have heard far too few of the other to vote.
