Mine is when people say "prog metal" instead of "progressive metal".  There's a difference Angry

what's the difference? isn't the word "prog" just short for progressive?

In the case of prog metal versus progressive metal, I know of none.

but i see people make a distinction between "prog" and "progressive rock"; isn't it the same thing?

why do we bury ourselves in semantics?

Prog is undeniably progressive rock, but something can be progressive without being prog.
Also, I think "prog" sounds better as a noun, and "progressive" as an adjective. I probably just feel that way because I've always called it "progressive metal" instead of "prog metal" I suppose.

basically what you are saying is that there is music with progressive rock influences but cannot be classified as "progressive rock"

The use of the words "overrated" and "underrated" bothers me.

I'm not sure if it bothers me or I just find it extremely disappointing, but when bands mimic harpsichord or church organ via synths. The latter is might be harder to achieve.

Yeah, that's right.  For example, James Labrie has described Dream Theater as "metal with progressive tendencies".

Silence. Dead f**king silence. For instance, the last 6 minutes of Glass Arm Shattering on Deadwing before I get to hear Shesmovedon.

This is used quite often... Those "hidden songs" after long silences are really dull and snob. What's the problem with adding a song at the beginning or the end of the record just like a regular track? Baaaah

Same here. Pendulous Skin by Mastodon pissed me off so much. 17 minutes of silence for someone to read a fan letter. Angry

Pendulous Skin is a perfect example. I think it's safe to say that only 1 person enjoyed anything after the 4 minute mark of that song.

This really anoys me, Marillion did it on This Strange Engine, My Dying Bride on Death Triumphant, Madder Mortem on Traiters Heart and there are probably many others I cant remember. Ruins a song for me.

Tracks of complete silence lack any point whatsoever as well.
Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005
