House With No Door is an absolutely f**king amazing song. It's not pop, in the sense that the vocal is very, very, very sophisticated, it features noticeable drumming in a soft song (which is surprisingly rare) and the interplay of saxophone with the piano/bass lead is very nice. I've a live version where Hammill semi-yodels some of the lines and it is just  And yes, the lyrics are an exquisite cross of ironic melodrama, serious longing and poetic beauty. I wish I could write that well about depressing things, because depressing things are the only things I ever bloody write about. Probably a folk song with rock instrumentation, if anything? |
