Are you suggesting the 2112 is disjointed? I think 2112 is the most connected epic I've ever heard. It uses different variations on the melody, with Geddy singing different parts of the melody in each movement.
As for Supper's Ready, I've listened to it three times now, twice rather unattentively, but the third time I focused on it pretty well. So far, I really haven't gotten much into it (or the rest of album), but I really want to get into Genesis, and I hear that Foxtrot is one of their best. More listens, maybe?

I'm getting a bit more into it (Supper's Ready) now actually, but I still think it's overrated. Some parts are amazing, but the choppiness and the overall suckiness of the beginning and the end keep it from being a masterpiece.
It might have something to do with me being unable to take Lovers' Leap, especially the "Don't you know our love is true" part at face value. The fact that she feels she has to repeat that fact, that it's been a long long time, and her general attitude scream to me that the female of the two lovers is cheating on the male, cf Young Lust/One of My Turns from Pink Floyd's The Wall. I'm constantly disappointed that it isn't addressed in the song .

Ive been listening to it since 1973 whne I first got into Genesis. I have heard it live with Gabriel, Collins and several times by Regenesis. It is wonderful every time. I have over 1,000 albums, yet the song I play most often is Supper's Ready (#2 is Close to the Edge!). It will never be bettered.

Analyse the lyrics, the melody or the atmosphere and you will think that it is UNDERrated. A truly masterpiece that so few bands connot do better...
POETIC, THEATRAL, BRILLIANT!

Underrated.
IMO 90-95% of other progressive is pointless if compared with Supper's ready...
Not to mention other popular music...
Only some classical pieces can compare with it
