I only have one album by Tool, Lateralus, which I do like a whole lot whenever I listen to it, which is not very often at all. On the other hand, I have five albums by PoS and I give all of them a regular, very enjoyable spin, and that actually includes *shock and horror* Scarsick! I guess I could safely give my vote to the latter band then... The Perfect Element, in particular, is a true 'one of a kind album' in my books. I find myself having these dreams where, in a parallel universe, Steven Wilson has produced the album and I am left in a room to listen to it in surround, over and over...and over...

To my ears, Tool has zero feeling and is way too mechanical to be enjoyed. Plus Maynard annoys me.

Im gonna try and work this out with a nice little poll of my own! Best from each band TOOL ------ PoS laturalus > The Perfect Element Aenima < BE Undertow <<<< Remedy Lane 10000 Days > One Hour by the Concrete Lake laturalus and TPE are as close to perfection as you can find but i think i prefer Laturalus (gulps) Aenima is amazing!!! but BE is amazing!!!!! aenima loses by a few exclamation points (i feel like ive killed my child) Undertow rocked my face off but Remedy Lane is BE and TPE caliber material. first real win by a big margin. 10000 Days was a disappointment but it had some awesome tracks. had to go for it big over One Hour, which is a great CD and underrated. So I break even. Tools masterpiece I enjoy eversoslightly more than PoS's but PoS has the one-two-three punch(s) of BE Remedy Lane, and The Perfect Element. Tool stumbles back a step but recovers with a resounding victory in the last round. Still not voting. and boy do i feel good about it.

Tool.
Once I finally 'got' it, I found their last two albums to be highly intimate listening experiences.

Not long ago I would have chosen Tool in a sec but now my vote goes to PoS, Tool has 2 masterpieces in my opinion Lateralus and Aenima while all of PoS albums are masterpieces for me with the exception of scarsick of course. I think Gildenlow is a far better vocalist than Maynard, overall I think PoS it's a more versatile band than Tool...

Hmm
Tool is one of the few bands I just can't stand listening. It is not that their music is bad or something, but it is an effort to listen them more than 20 minutes.
Pain of Salvation did four of my favourite albums (Entropia, One Hour.., The Perfect Element, Remedy Lane). So, guess what I voted

Easy
Tool, raw organised energy
If a hydrogen bomb was in music form, it would be in the form of Tool. They are the perfect fusion of Prog and Metal, and plus they have an absolutely sick drummer.

Tool is SOOO good, they have to get my vote.
I have to admit though, the perfect element is a really fun album!

even though TPE pt1 and Be are excellent, Aenima and Lateralus are just monumental...

I've given a try to three or four PoS albums, including the most praised ones, but every one of them has left me completely cold every time. Tool is one of the few bands today making genuinely interesting metal music.
