There is a contradiction here. As much as Labrie might suck, he still sings, I mean, he is able to produce actual musical tones with his singing. I would say Plant and Petty also can. Dylan, on the other hand......
LaBrie does not suck...IMHO...Great studio voice...IMHO.
I don't own a single note from Tom Petty for reasons stated above.

As long as its clean I can probably deal with it. Affection and Forced vocals and stuff is undoable. Muse's vocals (to name a news-worthy example at the moment) are pretty bad to me for the former reason, while you know there are a million examples in the metal and alt realm of forced vocals.
Both have simply taken over post-80s. I hate listening to affected and forced vocals. Worst affected I can think of: green day, worst forced, male, I don't know nickleback?????? who are they???? Female forced means Christina Aguliera, female affected means those whispery, accented things with the strummed guitars ... my crap I hate them.
The grammys were a minefield people, a minefield....

Hi,
So sad to even hear someone ask this question ... it's not even about the music, or the feeling any more ... Sid and Johnny, you were idiots, and the majority of rap folks morons, and anyone that warbled a note is a jerk. On top of it, most rock music spent its time making fun of the "classic" idea that you had to be perfect this and that ... I can't help think that this is a mis-guided question and the thread should be removed.
Bob Dylan has never claimed to be a "singer" .. he's more of a poet than anything else. So anyone expecting singing by him, is not someone that has any idea what Bob is all about, and obviously is NOT listening! Like Peter Hammill and Roy Harper, this is not about singing ... it's about expression, and if you think otherwise, the joke is on you ... they don't care what you think, and neither would I!
James LaBrie is not a bad singer ... he just suffers from garage band sound systems when DT goes on tour, and he can't be heard, or he has to go over a guitar and a drummer that thought he was better than the band ... in the records themselves he is fine. The only weird thing is his stuff on his own solo albums ... I think he wishes he was either Jonny or Sid, and we're to guess which ... in the end, he's just not that talented, but he can hold his own on DT, the lousy sound tours not withstanding. He sounded good when they went with Queensryche ... he has sounded horrendous on stage since!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told! www.pedrosena.com
That's just fine until they get to the "HAIL TO POWER" part.
That's my favorite part.
Granted it sounds a lot cooler on the studio version with the kind of effects being used.
I love GG alot too. At first I really disliked the vocals but it gets better with time. Now I think it's amazing lol.
Only Pro progger's like GG's vocals.
In the past ive really wanted to try to get into GG, and this site's praise to the band only encouraged it. But i just can't get past the vocals of the band. Is this song a unique "showcase" to their vocal style or no?
If there are songs/albums that differ in singing, i'd like to know.

OK, 2
points.
1) If you don't like Proclamation (or that version of it), you either haven't
'got' that song, Gentle Giant themselves, or both (neither?).
2) I hate the spelling police just like the next man, but for crissakes, the
word is: laryngitis. I wouldn't bother except this post has been repeated and
varied so much the last few pages, it seems to have been done to specifically annoy
me. Sorry

I've seen Dream Theater live opening for Iron Maiden and I've heard the studio albums. I actually think he's BETTER live since his vocals tend to get drowned out by Pertucci and Portnoy. His voice is just terrible.
I'm going to disagree with this. When I saw DT, they bumped up the vocals to a very high level and it was ear and brain disrupting. I actually had to leave early because it was giving me a headache (despite having ear plugs.)
