Tie Between Tommy and Who's next. I Do however prefer to listen to shorter non-prog albums so for that reason maybe Who's Next

Have I already posted in this thread or do I need to say Quadrophenia?

It might strike as odd for the common Who fan, but 'Who Are You' is definitely one of my faves, probably at number one.

Who's Next by several miles. Two-thirds of Tommy bores me, and Quad would've been better suited to a single album status.

Same here. Who Are You the album is the last really great LP what The Who (original line-up) were released. Guitar And Pen is my fav track from WAY.

While Who's Next is a great album and Tommy is overrated, Quadrophenia is a masterpiece.

Quadrophenia is good. I can see why it popular in the prog community but I'm going to have to go with those two.

Quadraphenia for me also.  The fact that they played all the instruments on that is remarkable!   Townsend is a genius.

This, although I do have a soft spot for Who Are You, which many don't rate.

Live at Leeds among their live releases and Quadrophenia from among their studio albums.  Honorable mention however to The Who By Numbers on the strength of the song Imagine A Man alone.

If I'm in a prog mood, Quad is king.

If I'm in a rock mood, Live At Leeds (especially the expanded CD rerelease including all those great songs not on the original LP like "Heaven and Hell", "Tattoo", "Fortune Teller", "Pictures of Lilly" & "A Quick One While He's Away")

Tough choice.....when push comes to shove I guess i'd go with Who's Next but Tommy and Quadrophenia are close seconds.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

Probably Who's Next overall, but close seconds are Quadrophenia, Tommy, and A Quick One.

I only got it a few days ago but I have to agree.

over two years later and I'm still agreeing

Its up against The Who By Numbers and Who's Next for me. The lattter has the two  most iconic Who songs (but the rest?!) while former is possibly the first album I ever owned (might have been Band On The Run can't remember) and has many great Pete Townsend songs. However Quad has that prog feel thanks to the synths that are on many tracks and the songs are strong.
