They're actually more of a shoegaze-y punk band. 
I suppose.  They are on Relapse Records though, which is generally a metal label.
They're considered shoegaze by the press, they consider themselves a punk band, and they're on a metal label, which was kind of a hang up for cults (I mean kvlts, sorry).
