My dear chap, I was not belittling them. I love both, as any even cursory glance at my written work will attest. They are simply not progressive rock. Art rock at times, yes, and with tracks which were very influenced by and on progressive rock. I was merely stating why they were included, and that was to drive traffic. I didn’t say it was wrong Wink

exactly. In reverse I've sometimes heard ELP described as 'Heavy Metal' (listening to say PAAE this is not a wildly off view) but would you expect them to be anywhere near a site dedicated to Metal or Heavy rock. We can respect bands at a distance perhaps. That said I did push for the inclusion of Maiden here and genuinely thought they had a strong case but plenty pushed back against that. Smile

Well, by one measure, Jethro Tull were/are a "Heavy Metal" band!  To whit....

The Recording Academy recognized heavy metal music artists for the first time at the 31st Annual Grammy Awards (1989). The category was originally presented as Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental, combining two of the most popular musicgenres of the 1980s.[3]

Jethro Tull won that award for the album Crest of a Knave, beating Metallica, which were expected to win with the album ...And Justice for All.

This choice led to widespread criticism of The Recording Academy, as journalists suggested that the music of Jethro Tull did not belong in the hard rockor heavy metal genres.[4][5] In response, The Recording Academy created the categories Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Metal Performance, separating the genres.

Lost its way?

This is the way.

Without these arguments about what is/ isn't prog this forum would be an empty husk floating in a sea of near total indifference.

Does anything inflame the passions more than trying to get a music website to bend to your will?

Let's not bring politics, religion or especially pirates into this. Then it would be a real ship show.

The Jethro Tull story at the Grammys goes to show how ignorant and incompetent the Grammy organizers were.

When it comes to rock and metal, the Grammys have rarely got it right, if ever. There are youtubers pointing things out better than i would ever, their main complaint is that new artists rarely get the award (like Metallica was snubbed in 1989). It's still happening, go figure...

I'm no fan of Metallica, but for them to be laughably beaten by Jethro Tull in the Hard Rock/Heavy Metal category isn't Justice for All (or even anyone at all). Unhappy

I once bought one of those swashbuckling DVD movies starring Johnny Depp, but it turned out to be a pirate copy. Geek

I can't speak to whether or not PA has lost its way. But I CAN say that this conversation has lost its way.

And I like it.

They did, but quickly became The Hinges after realizing the name wouldn't get passed the censors in the UK.

Were they related to the Doors detractors tribute band 'The Knockers'?
