Do you have any Barnes and Noble bookstores near your area? I've found lots of prog there, even some Gong and VdGG.

My local Barnes and Noble has about 10 CDs, and I think half of them are Cher or Celtic Hits Vol 3 or some dumb sh*t like that. There's a Best Buy nearby, but it sometimes has even worse of selection, but I at least got Blackwater Park there. Edit: Haha, it seems I've caused quite a stir. I did see Tarkus at FYE, so maybe they'll have more of that, and I will see how this music sounds. MORE Edit: After hearing everyone's gasping (whinybitchesWHOSAIDTHAT) I felt compelled to listen to the few bands I listed, and so far, I'm liking Genesis and ELP, from the samples here on PA. I may need to give VdGG more of a chance though.

You probably won't have much of a problem with Genesis and ELP. I would suggest concentrating on that for a while. VDGG can take some getting used to. I have been a fan of many prog bands for a long time, and am only now getting into VDGG. I didn't like it at all before, but now I am starting to love it.

Yeah I kind of figured they were like that....weird too, considering I got into Post-Rock without any troubles or uneasiness whatsoever.

Though I've been a progressive rock fan more than 30 years, I haven't owned this group at all. |
You really don't know what you're missing! they were one of my first....and best!!!
check 'em out - there is only one MP3 on their PA listings, a shame really as "Sympathy", great though it is, is their most well known commercial song.

Seriously though, statements like this have always made me confused. I can see them not being a favorite, but such negative attitudes amaze me.
| Haha nope! Not sure why you call it having a "negative attitude" though. It's my opinion, and I truly cannot stand their music. If I said anything else, I'd be lying. I didn't say they were bad, tons of people love them, but just not my cup of tea at all. |
I dont like them either. |
me neither.......
My theory is that it's a generational thing. When I started getting into music, in the early to mid 70s, the Beatles were dead. There were too many new & interesting current bands to go backwards. Had I been a couple of years older & grown up listening to the Beatles, or a few years younger & discovered them anew in the prime "music-seeking years", then things might have been different. But for me, they were old hat from the start.

Part of the problem may be a particularly British thing.........as you know, the Beatles come from Liverpool, the denizens of which city - commonly known as "Scousers" - are notoriously........shall we say parochial..........and aggressively so, particularly in respect to football & music..........in the eyes of any Scouser, if it comes from Liverpool, it's great, if it doesn't, it's sh2te.....so, for those of us not from Liverpool, who have ever had acquaintances from that area, dislike of the Beatles may also be a product of a backlash against Scousers in general, or individuals in particular. In my case, both play a part...
I think I'm right in saying Tony R comes from Bolton, which is geographically quite close to Liverpool, but a world away in football & musical culture; so he might be able to add something to my derogatory description?

We must be around the same age, but that should be a factor in being more of a Beatles fan. They are my no. 1. They were still getting major radio play at that time. They were still considered contemporary. Also, I run into many Beatles fans now that are half my age. My Father likes them, and he hates rock. I think their appeal is pretty timeless.

thanks for the lesson... I really can't argue with that rationale behind not liking the Beatles.
