Lappy, I finished Slaughterhouse-Five on Tuesday.  Excellent read.  I've also read The Sirens of Titan.

I'm not sure where to go with him next... all his books sound worth reading.

"Where's the cat? Where's the cradle?"

I read that line when I was 13 and I have been questioning every "given" truth since that day. Vonnegut was a genius.
What?

I love the way he links in things... the Tralfamadorians, Kilgore Trout, The Rumfoord Family.

Then there's his biographical bits and bobs.  Like the fact he was there at Dresden when it got bombed.

Hmmm, so... Cat's Crade or Breakfast with Champions?  I guess it all depends which one I find first.  I think a trip dowm Borders or Waterstones is in order.

I have read the whole Robert Jordan "Wheel of Time" series right up to number 11 and I am wondering when on earth the concluding book in the series is finally going to come out!  This is driving me nuts!
Apart from this good reads are:

Philip Dick (Sheer genius!)
Isaac Asimov
H. G. Wells
Greg Bear
Gregory Benford
J. G. Ballard
Stephen Baxter

It seems to me that half the people who are into Progrock are also into Sci-fi... Coincidence or what?

He was obsessed with the Dresden firebombing, which is why he was a voluntary fireman himself, and a lot of his books have firefighters as characters.
I liked "Galapagos" a lot too.

I just picked up his new book today:

"You know what? It's all true. Everything that ever scared you, from conspiracy theories to monsters under the bed to ghosties & ghoulies & long-leggity beasties. The only reason they haven't taken over the world yet is because my family has always been there to stand in their way. We guard the door, keeping you safe from the big bad wolf, and you never even know our names. Of course, there's a price to be paid. By us, and by you. The username's Bond. Shaman Bond. Licensed to kick supernatural arse. And Bond - real name Eddie Drood - comes from one of the oldest families in England, a family that has been protecting Humanity from the forces of darkness for more centuries than anyone can even remember. And Eddie Drood loved his job - until the day it all blew up in his face ... Secret Histories is a mix of James Bond and Blade, a fast-paced roller-coaster ride through the dark side."

I'm not reading them all that much out of sequence. First was Blue Moon Rising, then Swords of Haven, then  Beyond the Blue Moon (I'm only like 100 pages in, paused until I finish Guards of Haven). I love the Haven books the most I think, but Drnking Midnight Wine might be my favorite for just awesome nostalgic feeling I have for it. Nostaliga for 2 years ago....innit great! LOL

^^^^^^^
The Darkwood books are cool but I also like the Hawk & Fisher/Haven books a bit more, they are just such great characters in those books(they take sh*t from NO ONE).I also love the mishmash of  dark fantasy and supernatural/horror.

I am glad you are liking Green's stuff. Most SF/Fantasy freaks I know consider him a hack but I love his style.

If you ever do read the Deathstalker saga they must be read in sequence though.

Why do they consider him a hack?

By the way, I suggest you read Monument by Ian Graham. The cover caught my eye one day while I was in Barnes and Noble. It's one of the best fantasy books, I've ever read.

Most of my friends are into "hard" sci-fi,so if they don't write like Clarke or Asimov or Larry Niven they consider them hacks.

I tried turning one of my buds on to Deathstalker, which is sc-fi,a real "space-opera",and he said Green was the literary equivalent of a George Lucas film.

I don't really consider that a bad thing....Tongue

I was in B & N today book shopping, but next trip I will check out that Ian Graham book, thanks for the recommendation.
