That NASCAR finish was insane!  Kyle was essentially out of it for the win and on the last lap, Hamlin and Logano get into each other a few times and on goes KyBu for the win!  Awesome day!

Here it is.  I think it's in French, and honestly, adds to the excitement. LOL

^ Indeed. It was a great racing day all around. (Even though I didn't necessarily like everything that happened)

I kinda like this whole randomly turning on a NASCAR race, catching the final 10-20 laps and it being an epic finish.
Have a surprisingly good record of it!
I forgot how exciting it can be, I really got turned off by just how corporate it became and more cookie cutter crap tracks, but I may casually watch it more this year. At least the good races.

Hm....maybe reading too much into this but Webber's comments here intrigue me. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/21917254
"we had a plan before the race"
"Its hard to understand the situation. People think they know what went on but they dont"
Is this implying team orders...as in it was planned Webber would have the win? I sure hope not.

At least RBR is saying all the right things and I thought at first there was a secret "order" between Vettel and the team but nah, I think he just ignored it and went for it. Article says Webber has broken team orders before himself so yeah. Just what a crazy mess!

I think the "plan" would be the one that many teams use, i.e the drivers are free to race to the final stops and then the team calls it to bring the cars home safely. I know Webber continued to attack Vettel at Silverstone in 11 and was rather more defensive than he needed to be with Vettel in Brazil last year but this is on a whole different level.

That is what I figured, but never know...thought maybe he was implying deeper team orders. But that'd be foolish on his part.
Yeah, and supposedly Weeber outright said "No" in regards to supporting Vettel's '12 title run.

While he did get screwed big time at Malaysia gotta admit, sounds like Webber wants to "stick to the plan" in a case like this, but disregard team order and go for the win when it was at Vettel's expense. No issue with either way, just seems a tad bit hypocritical. But ah well, as Horner said they are racers...might as well take any reigns off and just let em duke it out, with the only rule being don't crash each otherLOL

Just read that Hamlin has got a fractured back from his Fontana crash, not good.

Also just heard that the American GT team Prototype Technologies Group (PTG) have closed their doors and sold off their kit. I can't believe we'll never see the iconic Yokohama black and red BMW M3's anymore!

^ Oy. It was quite a hit. It always seems like the car finds that one place on the track that doesn't have the SAFER barrier or has some structural incongruity to it.

Hopefully he won't be out for long. At least he has a week off to figure out what to do.

You'd think by now the whole track would just be lined with it (unless this isn't possible for some reason??)

Perhaps on gates it would be a problem? But I doubt that. Nor did this incident involve gates.

And oh yes!!

For those interested, a reminder that 2013 MotoGP season starts this weekend in Qatar.
MotoGP starts a new qualifying knock-out format with Q1 and Q2 (the top 10 riders during Free Practice go automatically to Q2, the rest participate in Q1 where the best 2 riders get also a place in Q2).

So far in Free Practice MotoGP rookie (and 2012 Moto2 champion) Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) has been the fastest. BTW the boy can lean on the bike...

7 times champion Valentino Rossi is back with Yamaha and doing reasonably well.

I love the fact that Penske is putting AJ back in one of his rides, but I do wish he could get something more permanent.  Oh well, this could lead to that, so we'll have to see how he does.

And Martinsville on the NASCAR side with the trucks' second race of the year and then Cup on Sunday.  Classic short track.

Yeah, his deal is for Barber and Indy only but there working hard on getting the backing for more races, Long Beach is certainly on the cards.

I work for Honda and although there's nothing official within the company I believe that it's very likely to be true.
Honda had no commercial interest in V8's but V6's are much more attractive for Honda's business case. The new NSX will employ hybrid technology and knowhow in Energy Recovery Systems will be very useful in the near future.
Running a full team was not doable but being just an engine supplier could be economically sustainable.

Mercedes motorsport boss Totto Wolff has even said that their contract with McLaren for 2014 will include special clauses to avoid that their engine technology could be passed by McLaren to Honda (he did not explicitly mention the Honda name but it was quite apparent from the context).

Yeah, James Allen has said on his blog that though nothing's been anounced, and isn't likely to be for some time, the deal with Honda has already been signed and that this comes form very reliable sources within the company. He's also said the same is true with a replacement sponsor for Vodafone, who's contract runs out at the end of the year and are pulling out of pretty much all sports sponsorship with the McLaren dela the last one remaining. It's said that though it isn't Carlos Slim or any of his companies (like Telmex), he was highly involved with securing the deal.

Always amazes me it's still called the "new" NSX, it's raced in Japanese Super GT since 2010 as the RSV and won that years title.

Nope, they have very little in common, while it is true that the project for a new NSX was at some point morphed into the HSV project (not RSV) and the HSV has served as testbed for several things which will undoubtedly be used in the new NSX, the HSV has front engine (V8) while the new NSX is a mid-engined V6 (complemented with electric motors). Completely different concept.

Thought I might have got the name wrong. Thanks for clearing that up, given how similar they look I'd always assumed that it was the HSV project morphed into the new NSX (which was probably the original intent but it sounds like it's HSV has been used for much more than just that).

It's anoying that it's hard to find much information on the Super GT series here, though that might change when they switch to DTM rules for GT500 class.
