Diggin' CSH's songwriting. I even like his voice. I'm
not keen on his falsetto BGVs in places, though.
I was thinking more earlier about my comment that he was a
"visionary", and what I meant by that. It's kind of like he manages to
fit a large-scale feel into a small-scale production, creating a
deceptively small microcosm for his musical world which grows ever more
expansive once you step inside it. It's a similar feeling I get when I
listen to Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti (my favorite artist), though
they don't sound anything alike. They both operate within the "lo-fi"
zone, but mainly out of necessity. They set their conceptual sights on
much grander fields ahead, but due to the limited medium of their home
equipment, the end result comes out kind of blurry and impressionistic,
leaving more to the imagination, and revealing more on each listen. So
the "visionary" part is just that he's got a very large world crammed
into those little home recordings, and it all originated inside his
head, as well as the happy accidents of the flawed recording process.

I have been uploading my collection to Amazon since Christmas Eve, and about 20% of it has been uploaded. This is a long, slow process. I still haven't started the upload of the music on my external drive, which has the majority of my music. It is still uploading the smaller drive.

I understand and certainly agree.
What I meant by "taking advantage of the bandcamp aesthetic" was related, but not the same, necessarily. Because of the recording equipment he uses, his album covers, etc., he sets a certain expectation for the quality of the album, but transcends it with his songwriting/production/use of resources/and ambition, while still keeping it appropriate to the small-scale setting. He's interacting with his culture in an interesting way, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and that's part of his appeal, I think. Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti is similar in the way they interact with the culture by using older genres and making them sound "haunted."
