The band had this to say about the new album: “The comfort zone is the invisible protective suit of negative thinking, almost like an entity of itself. It’s been with you since birth: your parents and your teachers and your friends and your neighbours all teaching you the way the world works – this is how it is and will be and there’s nothing you can do about it. The negative vibe is like a voice living inside of you, a companion through life. With time you start to like that voice and the place it takes you to: your comfort zone. I’m so sick and tired of it and I want to address it and maybe in that way start to work my way out of it”

Great news! I had hoped they would get it out this year (as they had said they would try to at the start of the year), but glad it happened sometime.

Also note the sequel to A Love Story!

Certainly this. 

Destined Solitaire has to be one of the best Eclectic Prog albums on this website.
But as Beardfish continue to embrace heavier influences and compositions i feel they lose their sound and honestly worsen in quality. The Void i just did not like. Haven't looked back on it after my disappointment of the first couple of listens. Mammoth was ok but it had a lot of material that i just found uninteresting and reminded me of filler material.  I honestly would of liked it more if it was a bit shorter, maybe even an EP including these:

Platform
And the Stone..
Tightrope
Without Saying Anything

Because all the rest of the songs fall into the categories i mentioned before.

I have to agree, they seemed to have lost some of the magic on the latest two albums.  I hope they can evoke a Sane Day or Destined Solitaire feel (which in particular was a great sweet spot and too short-lived) or explore something new outside of where they were headed with Mammoth and Void.  I still liked the Void a little more than Mammoth, but they're both missing a lot of the quirkiness that makes them unique.  The melodies and compositions just aren't as strong or inspired as the previous albums.  Even 'And the Stone...' becomes tiresome and predictable by the end of the song, it's hard to imagine it came from the same band that did Sleeping in Traffic.  They are fine albums for sure, but compared to the shadow of their previous work, I'm expecting more.

By the artwork alone and the concept, it feels like this is going to be a moody album. Hopefully, that means that the heavier side of the band will be restrained and we may get a new side of the band; a departure from quirky melodies as well as rougher rhythms. Maybe space-rock/psychedlic influences? Something similar to My Brother the Wind?

I was not a big fan of The Void i must admit, for the reasons cited here.  But even that contained a great song (to me), They Whisper.  

Giant hopes this band gets back on track.

I had the chance to see them a couple years back in Boston, and it was really, really good.  Hope a US tour is in order for the new release, but not holding my breath.

I agree. "They Whisper" was the best song from 'The Void'. I would put it on a best of Beardfish compilation. "Ludvig & Sverker" is pretty great as well. 

I would rank the albums like this.

1. Sleeping in Traffic I
2. Destined Solitaire
3. Sane Day
4. Sleeping in Traffic II
5. The Void
6. Mammoth
7. Fran En Plats Du Ej Kan Se

I don't know why everyone gets their knickers in a knot over The Void. The band has repeatedly made it clear that it was a one off- they all love listening to metal (especially older vintage, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple) and basically said, let's have some fun and play some riffs, why not? Which is an admirable attitude.

my knickers are blissfully unknotted

The Void was simply not my cup of tea...but i think all bands should always write, play and release what they want, but i dont always have to like it....thats all

by the same rationale, people should stop knocking Love Beach? or late 80's Rush, or 90125?

I salute Beardfish for exploring, and hope they continue

They should stop knocking 90125 because it's a good album.

But, that's not what I meant, if you don't like it you don't like it, my point was that a lot of people were overly concerned because they thought it was a shift in the band's direction, when the band made it clear that it wasn't.

On the contrary, the 'metal' infusions on The Void was a welcome change. Jarring a bit after Sleeping In Traffic and even Mammoth, and I was taken aback on the first few listens, but it is a great album, and out of the few albums I do have, they are all excellent. I don't mind if the next will be jazz-fusion......
......proves their versatility and ability to adapt to any mode - the sign of top shelf musicians.

Seriously, I'm pretty sure the entire amount of growling on the album would barely equal 20 seconds all up?!

None of my complaints had to do with the heaviness or growling. (Which I liked) Just saying these last two releases weren't as exciting or unpredictable as previous albums.  I still enjoyed the Void and listened to it a lot, (Mammoth less so) they're just not as high up there as others for aforementioned reasons.

Sorry, 'Narfer, I didn't mean like I was grumbling at you!

I was more thinking back to when it first came out, many people simply dismissing it because of that reason I mentioned! I thought that all their usual strong melodies and tricky playing were present still.

`Mammoth' I used to dig the heck out of, but I don't find it quite thrills me like it used to.

But I remember when I first heard `Sleeping in Traffic - part 2', I knew instantly what a sh*t-hot band they were!
