I would rather think Meddle is the one that started that chain... even if it's not as great as the other 3... but it's got Echoes, which for me is the first Floyd song of the new sound (well, that and One of this Days). But Obscured by clouds sort of breaks the chain for me... it is a nice listen and all, but it just isn't in the same category.

But then Atom should be in the chain too. Title track is great, the rest minus If is all good IMO.

100% Agree. I pick "Mudmen" . I love "Free Four" so much too. Very different sound and style plus Dark lyrics.

Well I mean that I think the second side of Atom Heart Mother consists of good songs, only the song "If" is IMO not that good.

It was probably meant as a wordplay. [shrug]

Under appreciated PF album. Went with Mudmen although it could have been Burning Bridges, Wots Uh the Deal, Childhoods End or Stay. Lots of Wright on this album. Big fan of it |
And I'd say that it's an unjustifiably over-looked opus in the Floydian canon. Voted for Absolutely Curtains, simply because it has one of the greatest titles, and that wonderful ending with the voices of the Mapuga tribe.

But it still sounds too much like early Pink Floyd, not "mature" Pink Floyd (just to give a name to the periods). Though the guitar parts on the title track (and Fat Old Sun too, I guess) do point in the direction the band would take. I still think that Echoes (and One of this Days) is the first song to feature the trade-mark Floyd sound of that "mature" period of the band.

Ah, I didn't like it at first, but "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" is quite charming. I think AHM deserves a thread of it's own!

I guess if it was only the music without the cooking breakfast sounds it would be more cohesive and enjoyable for me.

I really love the full band of "Morning Glory" from that section as well. Especially when the guitar solo comes in near the end. It's basically the last "Old Floyd" kiss off to the 60's as it was all change from here on in.
"Obscured By Clouds", a dress rehearsal for "Dark Side of the Moon" or just the sound of them working stuff out?

Their 2nd best album behind Animals. Dark side isn't very good to me
|
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Yup. Gives it an atmosphere of a kitchen with a small social setting (one-two other people).

The first two songs do it for me. I suppose I'll go with Clouds.
