Honestly it's too close to call.
1976 had Moonmadness, A Trick Of The Tail, Picchio Dal Pozzo's s/t, Viva Boma, 2112, Sommerabend, Oh Yeah!, Pricipe Di Un Giorni, Udu Wudu, Contre-Courant, Still Life, Kawana and The Hapless Child And Other Inscrutible Stories. 
A great top 13 in my opinion while my top 13 for 1975 is The Rotters' Club, Si On Avant D'un Cinquiem Saison, Godbluff, Energit's s/t, Bundles, Believe It, Voyage Of The Acolyte, Mainstream, Broken Door, Fremata's s't, Another Green World, Fish Rising and Diumenge.

Ironically, I saw my first prog band in 76, Druid.  However, punk and disco were gathering apace and despite some fine albums in 76, the great simplification had started.  Looking back, the first warning sign was when Virgin decided to put out Henry Cow 'Concerts' on its subsidiary label, Caroline, in the summer of 76.  It was symptomatic of an industry starting to off-load prog...
