I own the last 3 Enslaved albums, and really enjoy them. I love the mix of Progressive rock and Black Metal. How far back can I go where I get this formula? I have the Isa CD inbound ATM.

Isa is a no-brainer (and if you like the last three then check out Vertebrae as well, which I think is one of their most prog-influenced albums), and Below The Lights, though a bit more aggressive, also has a fair share of prog influences. Plus it's really good...one of my favs by them. Monumension has a bit too, but doesn't really have the same vibe as their later stuff. I like their early albums too, but it's pretty much cold black metal (or "viking metal" as some call it).

Great! Thank you. I really love the direction they have taken right now. Looking forward to Isa, and will likely get your suggestions very soon.

There's a few of the earlier ones i haven't heard myself though I'm gradually buying all their stuff. The general trend is the earlier you go the nearer you get to straight black metal so depending on how much you like BM will determine your enjoyment of those. The last 6 are my favourites, especially the last 3 but the earlier ones are well worth checking out.

I think "Eld" is a great album. The band's native language contributes much to the atmosphere. They shouldn't have switched to English on their later albums.
