Kate Bush's "The Ninth Wave" is my personal favorite prog epic.

I think Odyssey: The Greatest Tale (by various artists) is the absolute best prog album in the world.

Test For Echo is one of my favorite Rush albums, and I don't understand why it's their lowest rated album here on the Archives.

I prefer Spock's Beard's album X over all of the Neal era albums except for Snow.

I don't understand either, I think it's a great album too.

Clap Damn Phil, they should never had allow him leave his drum kit.

Seriously I must revisit "The Shepherd" once again. Thanks for reminding !

Whilst I will check out The Shepherd, I think Collins was a good fit range and power wise for Genesis and sang Squonk or Ripples better than perhaps Gabriel would have. Not as good as Gabriel at different voices and accents but not many are. His main problem on Trick and Wuthering was Banks' lyrics which are really awkward to sing over. Even Gabriel is a little subdued (by his standards) on Firth of the fifth.

I get that, Roger the Hat

Haa, just kidding !

Thanks for explaining that the lyrics are awkward to sing over. I never thought that so seriously because I barely can stand Philīs weak singing on those albums and therefore never really focused on his singing but now I get the picture. I must admit I very rarely listen to those post-Gabriel albums.

As for Philīs singing, he does excellent job on "... and Then There Were Three...". Very passionate even very powerful, quite incredible. In fact, Phil sings so good that I take every word very seriously. I listen to it quite often actually. Loved that passionate album since the day. Yes, his best ever singing is right there.
And their last great record.

Odyssey, is it an Italian Prog project ? Interesting anyway.
"Test for Echo", 1996 is the only album I care about after "Signals", 1982.

Welcome to PA. Try to avoid opinion fights, they soon fill this damn forum. Seldom are constructive, just waste of space.

Test for me is very uneven. Never cared for the title track very much. Usually when I listen to it I skip the title track, Half the World, Color of Right, Dog Years, Virtuality (starts out great and then gets meh), and Carve Away The Stone.

Presto is my favorite Rush album. Because of the great production (Rupert Hine), the wonderful drum- and guitarsound, great lyrics, short, powerful songs. Everything is just right.

I guess I'm not a great Rush fan, when I find their least popular album, their greatest one.

___________

The melodic rock of Magnum appeals more to me than their (psuedo) symphonic rock. Their first albums never quite did it to me, and then came Wings of Heaven (wow!) and Goodnight LA (even more wow).
To me, they never topped those two albums.

___________

I don't like the guitarplaying of Steve Howe. That's why 80's Yes appeals more to me. The same with Asia.

___________

I don't like John Wetton's voice. I don't like his bassplaying though. To me he's the laziest prog-bassplayer around. When he and Steve Howe left Asia, the band finally made some stellar albums (in my opinion).
The only thing Wetton I do enjoy is UK. But more because of Holdsworth, Jobson and Bruford. I wonder what UK would have sounded without Wetton.

___________

I love when progrockbands play poprock, arena/pump rock or melodic rock. Some bands really make the best album that way: Heart, Saga, Rush, Magnum, Yes, etc. Although I like 70's epic songwriting aswell. Nothing's carved in stone. Music is almost always enjoyable.

I never really took to it either. It has its moments but I found it a big let down after V.

The "new" one? No sirree bob, this is the original, the vintage, the definitive, the one and only "unpopular opinions" thread, courtesy of yours truly!

Obviously; I'm surprised more people haven't realized these. Conservation of energy and angular momentum, my friend.

What do prog bands cause? Increased production of moogs.

And what are moogs? Pretty heavy if I say so myself.

And what do heavy things cause? Changes in the Earth's moment of inertia.

And what do changes in the Earth's moment of inertia cause? Changes in its rotational period.

BOOM! Science confirmed: Prog = longer days

As for the nursing homes thing, I'm not sure that those have manifested just yet, but I'm sure that when it happens, Micky will have something to do with it...

Hopefully we can keep this original one clean, and keep the joking fun and civil.

Wrong. Try telling me Phil's singing on Home By the Sea takes a backseat to anything on And Then There Was Glee. It's pretty much recognized that Phil walloped the singing duties on his first time out, A Trick of the Tail, his finest singing. As for last great record, 'Glee was a muddled, lukewarm nod to the band's glory years.
