One of the first reviews for Fates Warning's upcoming release Theories of Flight is up (on Metal Wani) and it's wildly positive: In short, ‘Theories of Flight’ is undoubtedly going to be on the Top 10 lists of many listeners and reviewers at the year’s end. It is a heavy, melodic, yet still wonderfully complex and engrossing listen from the first chords to the closing moments. Any fan of their previous work would do well to get it at their earliest convenience, and for people who where perhaps less than enthralled before, prepare to have your mind changed and to be impressed. Fates Warning has delivered a nearly flawless piece of high art, and if you’re a serious listener and fan of artistically made metal this album needs to be heard.

Amazon has the album (somewhat tentatively) slotted for July 1st. Anyone else excited about this release?

I definitely am. The song they posted last week is the best thing I've heard from FW in a long time.

Yeah...pre-ordered from Amazon as soon as I could. I try not to listen to advance clips so I can hear the disc in it's entirety. I usually succumb though.

Yep, a chunky 74 minutes of music. We can only hope the extra disc is justified by some exceptional tunes... The teasers so far have me feeling optimistic Smile

Ah, that's great to hear! I pre-ordered the 2CD limited edition from Amazon so I'm hopeful I'll receive it on release day. Smile

Hello fellow Prog-heads.

I cannot wait to get my order for this album. Unfortunately my postal service issued a 72hr strike, so it looks like I won't get my FW album till at least Friday of if I'm lucky.

I'm so glad the reviews are positive and people like yourself are giving the album pretty good praise.
I love Darkness In A Different Light far more than the average Fatez fan.

If Theories of Flight can match even half my love for Darkness, then I'm gonna be very very happy.
Somehow I've got this feeling that Theories Of Flight is gonna win my album of the year in the Prog world just like DIADL did in 2013.

Fates Warning are serious contenders for my all time favourite Prog metal band.

....I cannot wait.

As I've given theories of flight many listens it's kicking my ass it's so good!!!

Disc 2: the acoustic tracks are just brilliant. Love the cover of 'Pray your gods.'
FW have seriously made it their own just like Disturbed did with 'the sound of silence. '

So brilliant. The Fatez train is riding very fast and strong right now. Can't wait till they go on tour

Hi Guys

Here's my take on what's turning out to be one of my favourite albums of 2016 so far:

When I first saw that, I thought it was worded slightly differently. LOL

Glad to hear they're making a good impression with this album. Fates has always been one of the most underrated bands in rock.

Hey man. Great review!! Very positive. Something I can definitely wrap my head around when listening to Theories Of Flight.
You mentioned 'well crafted' and ' listeners to try something different outside of their comfort zones.'
I couldn't agree more. Well said. Anyhow, I got more spinning to do.
I think this may be my album of the year. Can't get enough of it.
Got the album on my portable hi-res music player, so I can enjoy anytime and anywhere, which I desperately need!

Hey!! Fellow Saviour Machine Fan.
I love it! This album definitely had its hooks in me.
Very positive.
It's gonna be a dog fight between Fates Warning, Oceans of slumber and Headspace [. ]
For my album/band of the year.
Although, not here on PA, Fields Of The Nephilim have an album due out shortly (11 yr wait!)
That may overtake all for me, probably.

We'll see though.

Happy listening.
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣
