Nah some early Genesis is LOL
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Agreed. They're really not. An imminently forgettable band, that people did indeed forget.

Both groups have aged incredibly poorly, but at least ELP can be memorable. Greenslade can be enjoyable, but nobody outside of this website has any reason to bother remembering them. It's prog for people who insist on only listening to 70's prog and that have already listened to everything else.

Ahem....it's eminently forgettable .....if you are going to insult someone at least spell it correctly.
Wink

btw....both bands are basically unknown to the public at large.....and proggers do indeed know both bands.
I ask people with mainstream tastes all the time if they know any prog bands and I bring up big names....some know Genesis, Yes, Floyd, Tull...but very  few have ever heard of ELP.

Are you kidding? Number 1 albums plus 'Fanfare' as a hit, their influence went beyond prog. One of the greatest!

Number one albums where.....on what pop charts..?   Confused
My old friends over 60 know who they are but no young people do unless they are into music  deeply.
None of my daughters, 32, 37,  or son in law 34 ever heard of them until I enlightened them.
I visit a local used vinyl music store on a regular basis and you'd be surprised how many don't know who ELP were. A few will say....I've heard of them but don't know any of their music.
I'm sorry but 'old farts' like myself know them but the younger generation simply don't know.
Of course the same goes for Greenslade  since no one has ever heard of them other than some young prog heads I know.

Fanfare is a bit daggy. They used it for channel 7 sports for about 10 years in Melbourne lol.
Emerson should have stuck to organ and piano. Don't like his synth sounds much.

That's the only GS album I have, and tbh I can't remember anything from it (will have to dig it out and give it a spin again soon).

Anyway, an easy vote for ELP here for me.

Greenslade are apparently severely underrated. I consider "Bedside Manners Are Extra" and "Spy Glass Guest" to be excellent albums. they often had a wicked sense of humor in their lyrics that I especially like

ELP. Greenslade failed to click with me until this day. Maybe I should give them another try.

Two great albums indeed!

There was a distinct sound in Greenslade's sound, specially with Dave Greenslade keyboard skills.. A great sound all their own and classic.

Greenslade did indeed have a wicked playful sense in their lyrics etc....due probably to Lawson who was also in Web....who have two 4 star rated lp's here at PA. And Greenslade and Reeves were both in Colosseum....a fine early prog jazz band. These were not hacks by any ones definition.

ELP did have some fine early albums....mostly crap later on....and they became huge which never happened to Greenslade...but many fine bands ever made it big for numerous reasons.

I still play the first 3 or 4 ELP as well as the first 3 or 4 Greenslade.....but I find myself enjoying the quirky music of Greenslade and Lawson more often than the 'pompous stuff' of ELP these days.
