Brand new to the site, and wondering about something. I bought a used CD today called England by England, thinking it was the same guys who did Garden Shed. Doesn't seem to be...but I bought it anyway as it showed up as "Prog", possibly in Wikipedia. Strange that there would be two bands with the same name around the same time; strange too that the band featured on the CD I bought today does not appear in the Prog Archives...seems more like a hoax. Anybody 'shed' any light on this?

P.S. Haven't had a chance to listen yet.

There are many bands that are not in the archives, often because they are simply too obscure. Another reason can be that a band was rejected to be added because it was not deemed to be "prog".

They were discussed back in '09 and evidently not determined to be, or voted as, prog --

Listening now to the album on youtube, [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6ADPDT85mM ], they are near-prog but in my opinion not quite there.   That's not to say they weren't progressive for the time; on the other hand you couldn't swing a dead hedgehog in '76 without hitting a heavy progrock band and in that context they are only mildly progressive.   Very good lesser band though.   Maybe they'll get a re-vote, you never know.

Shame you didn't buy the original album!

Here is the complete Mega Rare 1976 Private Pressing on the Deroy Label by UK Prog Rock Band `England` the originals are now selling upward of 2000 British Pounds, Reportedly only 99 pressed and many sent to Major record labels (and we know what they do with unsolicited material)

Yes, now that I am listening to it, I can see that it is more Wishbone Ash than prog. A great album, though, for a WA fan like me! Nice sound on the CD too.

Just as long as it wasn't New England!
