Topic: 4 Peter Hammill Solo Albums Posted: February 15 2017 at 14:23 |
Just got A Black Box on vinyl the other day, figured I would make a poll to see what you guys think of these albums. The Silent Corner is the best for me, followed closely by Black Box and Over.

Silent Corner Over A Black Box (these two are pretty much tied, so I have deference to my preferred album, but it really is a 2A and 2B situation) Nadir"s Bis Chance

Man oh man, Silent Corner is utterly BRILLIANT, just like the albums before and after it. A triptych of PERFECTION. These are on a plateau of their own. The other 3 titles in this list are all excellent - Over is very depressing, but beatiful at the same time. Nadir is Punk before Punk really 'happened'. And A Black Box is highly experimental, and features the wonderful Flight suite. Silent Corner. But I'd still consider Chameleon to be one of my top-ten 'desert island' albums, I shall be buried with this album alongside my rotting and decomposing corpse.

Again, being of low caste, I can't vote. Silent Corner is, of course, the rational choice but I'm surprised nobody voted for Chameleon. Also, Fool's Mate deserves more love than it tends to get. Leave us not forget that Fripp plays some damn fine guitar on it.
