This band has really had a terrific year. Outside of Buckethead and Jorn Zorn (who really don't count as they aren't humans) I can't recall any up and coming band being so productive and with such great results.

So please do yourself a favour and check these cats out. Brilliantly played old school rock with nods to garage, psych, pop, jazz and prog.

Which one is your fave?

Oh and here's the link to their bandcamp page where all the albums can be heard in their entirety.

I am very tempted to vote for Sketches. It is certainly the album of theirs I've spun the most over the year. There's a quirkiness and melodic charm to it that just tickles my fancy. I'll hold onto the vote though as I haven't properly listened to the newest Gumboot Soup yet.

I only heard the first four and FMB was the only I spun more than once. Sketches was my favourite too maybe because it's more instrumental than usual, although they never spend enough time or work on a each musical idea much. Thinking about it, it's almost as annoying as the vocals Confused

Funny you should say that Samuel. I've been trying to sell this band to my friends back in Copenhagen, and they all share the same problem with the Gizzards: the vocals. 'Damn these guys rock!!! Gotta love the energy and drive!!! But why would they ruin that with those annoying as hell vocals!??!?!!!!'
It honestly took me a little while to get into the vocals, so I understand where they're coming from. I just didn't think they'd be such a big problem.

Uh.....a very interesting and weird band.....I sampled all of the ones above....Sketches, Poly, and Gumboot had some nice things going on......Murder and Flying didn't appeal to me as much.
At times they remind me of Motorpsycho colliding with Zappa  and other odd influences.
It would take me about a week of listening to these all the way through to really get a good feel for what they are up to. Obviously talented people.....the vocals can be a bit annoying at times...but not that bad.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

Between Sketches of Brunswick East and Flying Microtonal Banana for me. I'll go with Sketches today.

I just gave Gumboot Soup a proper spin. It's a pretty good album but nowhere near Sketches for me. Yep second vote for Sketches.
Wow 3 people have voted in this poll now
Seems like the Gizzards haven't won much ground in the pork world as of yet. Too bad, they're an incredibly talented band that seemingly should please fans of 70s rock.

It has to be Murder of The Universe for me. I love the sheer heaviness on that album and I think the spoken word parts add a lot to the album.

With that being said, Crumbling Castle is the best thing they ever did last year. Might even be my song of the year.
"Hey there, Dog Man, now I drink from your bowl."

Well I haven't voted as I can't decide. I l love them all but it's either Murder or Sketches for me.

-I often dismiss musically great band because I don't like the vocals - but no such problems with these guys.

I got a pinky-finger away from seeing them live late last year, I'm fffing pissssed I missed them.

Their last 4/5 albums have been killer great, quite stellar compared to much of the more retro-esque prog and psychedelic rock coming out

I can't decide which one I like best. One of the best modern bands though.
