Opeth is excellent, but they do get on my nerves at times. Can is excellent and never actually annoying. Can it is.

Not gonna happen, but I'd be so happy if Can won this Prog World Cup competition.

I don't know about that. Some of Can's albums after "Soon Over Babaluma" are pretty weak.

Opeth hasn"t released a bad album yet ("Sorceress" is my least favourite, but I wouldn't say it's bad)

^ even if one considers those albums weak.. well...  the albums they put out before it were not only the highest of quality but genre definiing and vastly influentia.

^^ and if one considers those albums weak... what of Opeth that had something special and interesting until they fell under the evil spell of Steven f**king Wilson and became vanilla and completely boring.  That band might as well hung up after the masterpiece of Ghost Reveries and saved its reputation hahah.

easy vote for Can.. but I do love me some early Opeth but zero time for the later sh*t

Granted. I also prefer their earlier catalogue.

But Heritage was pretty decent.

Pale Communion is great. Just listen to this

Sorceress has its moments, but as I said before, it's their weakest effort in my book. It also contains "Will O The Wisp", which I viscerally hate with all my guts.

First 6 Can albums are genre defining.

Me too. They have a very long shot at it, and it most likely won't happen, but it would be nice if they did.

Sorceress is my favourite album from them , though I guess not liking growling has a lot to do with it. From among the non-growling ones it's the most satisfying to me. Damnation is too boring for me, Heritage too experimental, Pale Comunion too prog-by-the-numbers, but Sorceress seems to have had some nice identity of it's own that I got to love.

I still wish for a full metal album from Opeth without growling, though.

Opeth...just more consistent over the course of their entire career.
