Attention Hamerheads!

This just in from the Department of Momentous Memoriam Continuing Upcoming Airplay Trinity Department:

I have received advanced notice that Tom's music will enjoy airplay on 3 shows today, Saturday, 17 September.  Following are the shows' info and links.

Tony Romero has said that he will curate a set on his DJ Tony's show on House of Prog.  That show airs from 10AM - 1PM PT, has a lively chat and a wide variety of music, delving into metal, jazz and soul, as well as prog.  Link to House of Prog: https://houseofprog.com/

Later in the day, Mike Sherrill mentioned to me that he is considering playing one of the suites on his W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation show on Twitch television.  His show is probably the most varied of the shows that feature prog, he includes metal and sometimes even bluegrass from time to time.  That show will commence from 4PM - 7PM PT.  Link to WTAU:  https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

Thirdly, Juls of Prog Rock Nation will be replaying her Show #29 over at KTAL Las Cruces terrestrial radio.  This show featured many fine progressive artists, including Tom, of course, and she does play a few tunes of his in a row.  PRN airs from 7PM - 9PM PT, here is the link to the station: https://www.lccommunityradio.org/?fbclid=IwAR19kXXe9SPhJrl5yF8ZeBQIlegrI5FavyOucVhRjnFQsUgYBayWXNiWCoM

In other news:

On 05 September, Alex Cruzeta chose to play "Spinning Through Eternity," on his Monday Chemistry Sets show.  This show airs every Monday from 5PM to 9PM PT, on Deep Nuggets Radio, with the prog hour being the second(ish) hour in.  Link to Deep Nuggets: https://www.deepnuggets.com/

Chuck Simons over at Progrock.com played both "The Wayfarer," and "West Fork," during his Progrock for Beginner show on 06 September.  Airing every Tuesday from 3:30PM to 6:30PM PT, he features a myriad of "must hear," progressive rock bands.  Link to Progrock.com:https://progrock.com/

Lastly, but certainly not leastly,10 September saw "Staring It In The Face (Part 2) receiving airplay on rotation on Aural Moon.  Aural Moon is on 24/7 for your earses.  As mentioned above, someone very kindly also requested "Spinning Through Eternity," on 15 September at 8:00AM PT.  Link to Aural Moon: http://auralmoon.com//

I am so grateful for the support and continued notice of Tom's music over the past 4 years since the release of the trilogy.  That anniversary is just around the corner, with Burnt Peas and A Quail's house being released on 25 September and Spinning Through Eternity the next day, in 2018.  Tom had died a little over a year before that, 15 September, 2017.  Many people joined me in playing music of his in tribute yesterday, it was very moving to see how many.

Thank you for still listening out there.

These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

Attention Hamerheads!

From the Department of Advanced Notice of Airplay Ahead of Time Department, this just in:

The lovely Alex Cruzeta has let me know that there will be a tune of Tom's on his Monday Chemistry Sets show tonight, 5PM - 9PM PT on Deep Nuggets Radio.  Alex is so much fun to listen to, he does a mix of rock and pop and soul and prog, and everything in between. Prog Hour is about the second hour in, typically, but why not come along for the whole ride?  Link to Deep Nuggets Radio: https://deepnuggets.com/

In other news, the Potter's Daughter beautiful cover of "Catherine," has been getting tons of airplay all over.  If you haven't heard it yet, you can give a listen here for free:https://officialpottersdaughter.bandcamp.com/album/weighted-keys

On 19 August, Aural Moon played "A Bookwife's Dream," in rotation on their 24/7 progressive station.  Link to Aural Moon:http://auralmoon.com//

Prog Rock for Beginners' Chuck Simons elected to air "Forward," to close his show on 30 August. Progrock for Beginners airs every Tuesday from 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM PT.   Progrock is also a 24/7 station.  They can be found at: https://progrock.com/

And lastly, but not leastly, Mike Sherrill played "Staring It In The Face (Part 1)" on W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation just last night.  WTAU is on Saturdays, on Twitch TV from 4PM - 7PM PT.  Link to WTAU: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

We are approaching the unbelievable 5 year anniversary of Tom's heading to the stars, and 4 years since the release of these recordings. Who would have imagined that they got heard by so many, much less that they would still be getting airplay.  I continue to be grateful to all of the hosts, reviewers, and friends, and especially Kevin Feeley for his introductions all around.

These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

Attention Hamerheads!

This just in from the Department of Weighty Missives Department, Whodathunk There'd Be A Tom Kelly Tune Covered and Wow What a Fantastic Rendition It Is Department:

Yes, you read that right.  Dyanne Potter Voegtlin took on the incredible task of covering Tom Kelly's "Catherine." Potter's Daughter's, "Weighted Keys," is officially being released on Friday, 19 August.  They also cover both Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell on this EP, and I am so pleased to announce that it is finally out and it is stunning.

Here is a link to their Bandcamp page: https://officialpottersdaughter.bandcamp.com/album/weighted-keys.  I am so honoured that she has prepared this lovely solo piano track.  For those of you who aren't familiar with her work, she and her various projects are very respected in the prog world, and with good reason.  It is a fantastic tribute to Tom and his music.  I hope many of you will be inspired to support her effort, you'll discover a fantastic artist, if you don't already know her.

As I was typing this in advance (actually on 9 August), Potter's Daughter's "Catherine," is already getting airplay, it is the only pre-release piece available from the band, until the official release.  First station/show to play it was Isaac Banks on his Sweet Sunday Sounds show on Valley FM 89.5 in Canberra, Australia.  Koalas appear out of nowhere? And since (just prior to sending), it's been on several other shows/stations these past 10 days.  Wishing Dyanne fabulous success with this EP!

In other news, it's been quite a while since I've had advanced notice of airplay, but Tom's music is still being played in rotation on several shows and stations.

Friday Night Progressive, airing Fridays (d'oh!) from 6PM - 8PM PT played "Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats on 29 April, and also during a rerun of their 2020 Indie Prog Awards show on 6 May.  Currently, every few weeks, the nominees for the 2021 Indie Prog Awards is airing, last week, the first installment covering the small fields of Vocals and Fusion hit the netwaves.  This year, I have additional responsibilities, in being one of the judges, no easy task.  Link to Friday Night Progressive:https://fridaynightprogressive.com/

Still spinning Tom tunes frequently is Mike Sherrill over at W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation.  This show is seen on Twitch TV on Saturdays, from 4PM - 7PM PT.  30 April, "A Book Wife's Dream of Her Own Imposter: Dedication;" 7 May and 16 July, "Cows Appear Out Of Nowhere;" 4 June, "The Fork Boogie"; 11 June "God And The Flatlanders: Celtic Version;  25 June "The Fork;" 2 July "The Wayfarer Suite;" 6 August, "Love Is Money;" and on 13 August, "A Book Wife's Dream of her Own Imposter ~ Forward," all made their way to Mike's playlists.  Link to WTAU: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

Aural Moon continues Hamer's music in rotation, AM is 24/7 prog and related music.  13 May saw "Spinning Through Eternity," 4 June included "Fugue In B Minor;" and following that, 26 June, "Travels Part 3;"  1 July, "Cows Appear Out of Nowhere;" 23 July "Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats;" and on 14 August, "The Keys," all found their way to The Moon.  Link to Aural Moon:http://auralmoon.com//

AZUSA Progressive Radio also keeps Tom rotating, or is that spinning?  No matter.  They have played "Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats" on 20 May, "Nothing Ends, Nothing Begins," began or ended or whatever Emoji and also heard tell of "Burnt Peas (Parts 1 and 2) being played on 15 August.  AZUSA is 24/7 and can be found at: https://progressiverockazusa.com/

Paul Higgins saw fit to add some Tom Kelly a few times on his Aquarian Moons show, which is on hiatus for now.  I had the pleasure of meeting him and his lovely wife, Anita, a couple of months ago, for lunch over in Forest Grove.  He played "A Slight Overture of Sorts," on 13 May; "Chapter One: A Bookwife," on 4 June; and "Nothing Ends, Nothing Begins," on 25 June.  We hope he'll be returning soon.

Kev Slaymaker over at Between Two Worlds on CRMK radio in the UK saw fit to include "The Fork,"on 30 May and "The Keys," on 4 July.  Between Two Worlds airs on Mondays from Noon until 3PM PT and can be found at this link, during that time: https://www.crmk.co.uk/

Lastly, but not leastly, Stuffer White included "Nothing Ends, Nothing Begins," on a rerun of Light Without Heat.  This show airs on Sundays, 4PM - PM PT on Spreaker. Link to LWH:https://www.spreaker.com/user/stuffer/lwh-progressive-rewind-72819_1

As always, thank you to everyone who listens and shares and keeps the spirit of music alive with me.

Attention Hamerheads!

From the Department of Escalations and Maximizations of Celebrations Department, this just beamed in:

This today, 29 April, Friday Night Progressive will be airing their 500th show from 6PM - 8PM PDT  and included in the celebration will be some music of Tom's.  Friday Night Progressive has been a staunch supporter of Tom's music and I'm very happy that he is included along with so many other great artists for this special show.  You will hear so much wonderful indie music, I highly suggest tuning in if you can, the roster is impressive.  Link to FNP:https://fridaynightprogressive.com/

In other news, airplay since the last Martian Missive included, on 28 March, "Staring It in the Face, Part 2," and on 16 April, "Remains of Childhood Lost," in rotation on AZUSA Progressive Rock Radio.  AZUSA is a 24/7 progressive music station and can be found at: https://progressiverockazusa.com/

he 7th House, which appears on House of Prog radio on Mondays, 5PM - 7:30PM PDT, and is hosted by Steve Swayne, selected "Catherine," covered by the wonderful Dyanne Potter, on 29 March.  This was in honour of my birthday, but aired next day due to some scheduling conflicts for the host.  House of Prog also has several other hosted shows, and is another 24/7 station.  Link to House of Prog:https://houseofprog.com/

Mike Sherrill over at W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation, airing on Twitch Television, Saturdays from 4PM - 7PM PDT chose to present "Forward," on 12 April, and also "The Fork," on 23 April.  Mike presents quite a variety of indie music each and every week. Link to WTAU:https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

24/7 station, Aural Moon, played "God & the Flatlanders (Waltz Version)," in rotation on 17 April.  Jim Brennan, station owner,  presents a great variety of progressive and jazz-tinged progressive music.  AM can be located at: http://auralmoon.com//

Chuck Simons' Prog Rock for Requesters show, on Progrock.com, who is working through mostly progressive music alphabetically, played 2 tracks of Tom's on 20 April, both "God & the Flatlanders (Celtic Version) and "The Tolling of St John's Bells," to great acclaim in the chat room, as well as being heard over the netwaves, of course.  Progrock.com is 24/7 as well, they play a huge variety of progressive and related music, as well as presenting many hosted shows (several are Chuck's).  Link to progrock.com:https://progrock.com/

Lastly, a bit aside from Tom, I will be doing another episode of "Nickie's Niches," this coming Tuesday (3 May) on Chuck Simons' "Top 10," show on Progrock.com., running from 8AM - 10AM PDT   This show focuses mainly on Bandcamp purchases over the past month, to give lesser-known artists some needed exposure, but I do also discuss some others that I find of merit, when it suits me.  Meant to coincide with Bandcamp Friday, originally, I will continue this show even when they discontinue the practice, this should be the last month, unless they change they minds and extend it.

As always, thank you to everyone who listens and shares and keeps the spirit of music alive with me.

These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

Attention Hamerheads!

From The Department of Pondering Various Significances Department:

Do they have birthdays in space?  I'm wondering, and have figured that I'll bet they don't (have birthdays in space).  For instance, writing out the year alone would require, you guessed it, lots of space.  And I don't think there's enough paper for that. However, I hear space does have music.

As will the space around you if you tune in to Alex Cruzeta's show today, Monday 28 March, from 5PM - 9PM PST.  Opening the show will be a set that will include some music of Tom's for your earses, so don't be late.  Check your pocketwatches and I am sure you will hear some frabjous notes and maybe even dance a bit.  One two three, one two three.  Link to Deep Nuggets:https://deepnuggets.com/

Additionally, there is a show that I participate in a bit, a request show on Progrock.com.  Rather than bringing mostly known artists there, the artists I suggest are usually a bit more obscure.  Chuck Simons' Progrock for Requesters is on Wednesdays from 11AM - 2PM PST, this week, on the 30th, he is on to the letter K.  Which I brought our favourite Martian to.  Quite possibly, he will get as far as the Tom piece I requested, but it may be the next week, there may be lots of KAs to attend to, what with a certain band, who also hailed from the US.  Anyway, it's a show that is extremely varied and fun, if you've got the time.  Link to Progrock.com:https://progrock.com/

In other news, since the last Martian Missive, Tom's music has still been making the rounds, albeit the orbits are slowing a bit.

In other news since the last Martian Missive, Paul Higgins chose to play "The Wayfarer (Part One)," on his Aquarian Moons space/prog/psych show on 19 February.  Aquarian Moons is on Spreaker on Saturdays from noon until 3PM PST.  Link to podcast:https://www.spreaker.com/show/aquarian-moons_2

Tom got other airplay, the same day, on Tony Romero's show on House of Prog radio.  He elected "Remains of Childhood Lost," and "A Bookwife's Dream of Her Own Imposter: Dedication," in a double play.  Tony's show is also on Saturdays, 10AM - 1PM PST.  Link to House of Prog: https://houseofprog.com/

Mike Sherrill over at W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation has continued to have Tom's music on his show, and played "Ma and Pa Kettle Go To Hell," on 26 February; "Staring It in the Face (Part 1)," on 5 March;  "The Tolling of St John's Bells," on 19 March; and "A Slight Overture of Sorts," on 26 March.  WTAU airs every Saturday on Twitch Television, from 4PM - 7PM PST.  Link to WTAU (and podcasts):https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

Aural Moon had Tom in triple rotation this past 30 days, with "Staring It in the Face (Part One)," on 27 February; "Travels (Part One)," on 20 March; and on 26 March, "Forward," appeared on the 24/7 progressive music station.  Link to Aural Moon:http://auralmoon.com//

Lastly, a bit aside from Tom, I will be doing another episode of "Nickie's Niches," this coming Tuesday (29 March) on Chuck Simons' "Top 10," show on Progrock.com., running from 8AM - 10AM PST  This time, you will hear my voice, as I read the mini-reviews, and there were a couple of tongue-twisters, but overall, not bad for a first time.  This show focuses mainly on Bandcamp purchases over the past month, to give lesser-known artists some needed exposure, but I do also discuss some others that I find of merit, when it suits me.  Meant to coincide with Bandcamp Friday, originally, I will continue this show when and if they come to a conclusion with them.
As always, thank you to everyone who listens and shares and keeps the spirit of music alive with me.
These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

Attention Hamerheads!

Life on the Red Planet Continues: From the Department of The Music of the Spheres Finds Martian Music Manifesting Department:

Paul Higgins has kindly given us some rare advance warning of a Martian sighting on his Aquarian Moons show, set for today, Saturday 19 February.  Paul's show is primarily space and progressive music, explore it beginning at 11AM PST, for 3 hours (even though there are no hours in space).  Paul also played "Spinning Through Eternity," on his show of last week on 12 February.  Check both of them out on Spreaker:  https://www.spreaker.com/show/aquarian-moons_2?fbclid=IwAR3FkHWsIUMZAYitAdTK6WGdECOmIPyipT7IFzxeonBK-3yWzjNBFnFVl7o

In other news, airplay has continued since the last Martian Missive, starting with Chuck Simons' Artist Submissions show on Progrock.com, on 25 January.  This show airs every few months, along with several other fine shows appearing more regularly that Chuck brings to the station.  Several pieces were featured, "The Wayfarer (Part 3)," "Travels (Parts 1, 2 & 3)," "West Fork," and "The Fork Boogie," all from A Quail's House.  Link to Progrock.com:  https://progrock.com/

Note that Chuck has added a feature of "Nickie's Niches," to his Top 10 Show on Progrock.com as well.  This features my Bandcamp purchases of the previous month, to coincide just prior to Bandcamp Friday.  Chuck reads my mini-reviews and plays my chosen selection from each purchase.  That show airs on the Tuesday before the first Friday of each month, from 8AM - 10 AM PST.  When I figure out how to use Audacity, I hope to do my own voice portion, but while I am learning, am handing the reins over to Chuck.

Also on 25 January, Steve Swayne over at House of Prog chose to play Dyanne Potter's wonderful solo piano cover of "Catherine," on his 7th House Show.  Dyanne's version of this and other solo piano pieces will be released later this year.  Steve's show is every Monday, from 5PM - 7:30PM PST.  Link to House of Prog:  https://houseofprog.com/

Mike Sherrill over at W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation has continued with his playing of Tom's music, to wit:  on 29 January, 5 February and 11 February, respectively, he selected "Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats," The Tolling of St. John's Bells," and "The Fork," for airplay.  Mike's show is on every Saturday on Twitch TV from 4PM - 8PM PST. The show on the 5th was a feature listen to and interview with Temple of Switches, regarding the excellent new release "Four."   Link to WTAU:  https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

30 January saw the Martian on The Moon once again, this time Aural Moon, where "The Wayfarer (Part 4) landed in rotation, then again on 5 February along came "A Bookwife's Dream of Her Own Imposter, Chapter 1."  Aural Moon is 24/7 progressive music and can be found at: http://auralmoon.com//

Stuffer White, who's pretty much been on hiatus for quite some time, added a repeat "rewind," Light Without Heat show on 6 February, which included "The Keys."  Light Without Heat appears on Sundays from 4PM - 7PM PST.  Hopefully Stuffer will pick up the ball again and bring some new shows soon.  Link to Light Without Heat: https://www.spreaker.com/show/light_without_heat?fbclid=IwAR3zG0G535K22uJN35H1DGQeDtGM7X8eGB3StEBOCAPXLaztKX6GQ8cwJUU

And lastly, but not leastly, "The Tolling of St. John's Bells," rang their way in rotation onto AZUSA Progressive Rock Radio on 7 February.  This is another 24/7 station and lives at:  https://progressiverockazusa.com/

As always, thank you to everyone who listens and shares and keeps the spirit of music alive with me.

These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

LOL!  It's just a name a friend coined for people who enjoy Tom's music.  Kind of like Parrot Heads are fans of Jimmy Buffet.

His middle name was "Hamer," which is pronounced, "Hay-mer."  We all called him Hamer as often as we called him Tom.

So it's a play on of hammerhead (shark) and his middle name.

Attention Hamerheads!

Dispatch just in from the Department of Has It Really Been Less Than A Week? Department:

Happy to announce that there will be more airing of Tom's music today, Tuesday, 25 January on Chuck Simon's Progrock For Beginners Artist Submission show on, you probably have guessed, Progrock.com.  The show will be on at a slightly altered time to allow friend of many in the progressive rock community, Tatsurou Ueda, to attend, as he is one of the featured artists among the many others who have become friends of ours over the years who will appear here.  Chat is now over at Discord, and you can access that from the homepage, should you wish to join in there.  Showtime is 5PM - 8PM PT and can be found at the following link to Progrock.com:  https://progrock.com/

Due to the close proximity of the last Missive from Mars, I only have two other Martian sightings to report, one was of course, Friday Night Progressive's show of last Friday, 21 January.  During that show, pretty much everyone in the US who uses Comcast/Xfinity as their internet provider was prevented from hearing audio until right before the end of the show, which was when apparently, there was perhaps, some ghostly intervention, or Martian mediation, and the sound came back, allowing even those in the US to hear "The Fork Suite," generously selected by Ronald Marquiss that evening.  Friday Night Progressive is on every Friday, 6PM - 8PM PT.  Link to Friday Night Progressive:  https://fridaynightprogressive.com/

Next day, 22 January, Mike Sherrill's W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation featured "Staring It In The Face (Pt 1)," on his show.  WTAU airs every Saturday from 4PM - 7PM on Twitch TV.  Link to WTAU: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

I hope to see some PA folks at this show, any interested in what some indie proggers are up to will find lots to love here.

These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

Attention Hamerheads!

In Pondering the Significance of Radio vs Internet In Terms of Longevity, this just in from The Department of Radio Waves Last Forever, Internet Transmissions About 7 Years Department:

I received a transmission from Ronald Marquiss over at Friday Night Progressive that Tom's music will be once again gracing the airwaves from that stalwart internet show, today, 21 January.  Friday Night Progressive plays some of the best progressive and related music out there and the show has been a continuous champion of Tom's since we first made contact there.  The show will air from 6PM - 8PM PT and there is a free and friendly chat room attached, should you wish to join the folks there.  Link to Friday Night Progressive:  https://fridaynightprogressive.com/

In other news, Tom is still enjoying airplay here and there and we have continued to have sales of mostly digital downloads, even over three years later.  Internet airplay sightings follow:

On 27 December, Progressive Rock AZUSA was heard spinning "Catherine," in rotation. AZUSA is 24/7 and plays plenty of prog for your earses.  Link to AZUSA:  https://progressiverockazusa.com/

The same date found Alex Cruzeta selecting the Mistress Quickly nugget, "Violent Pig Plaster," on his Monday Night Chemistry Sets, airs every Monday from 5PM - 9PM PT on 24/7 Deep Nuggets radio.  Link to Deep Nuggets: https://deepnuggets.com/

On to New Year's Day of 2022, which had 2 Martian sightings.  In rotation, "The Fork," was on the table over at ProgAlley internet radio, heading to you from Germany.  Prog Alley is also round-the-clock broadcasting, here is the link to the station: http://www.progalley.de/

And, same day, Mike Sherrill at W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation returned to Twitch TV after a week off.  Mike's show is on Saturdays, from 4PM - 7PM PT and is fun to watch, since you get to see what the host is up to during his broadcast.  Mike chose "The Tolling of St. John's Bells," on New Year's Day and also played "The Keys," the following Saturday, 8 January.  And a third week in a row, 15 January, "Nothing Ends, Nothing Begins," did have a beginning and end on his show.  Link to WTAU: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

The next Saturday, 8 January, played Tom's music not once, not twice, but three times that I observed (including at WTAU just above).  First was the return of Tony Romero to his show on House of Prog radio, yet another 24/7 site for progressive and rock music.  Tony selected "Love Is Money," to play.  His show is on Saturdays from 10AM - 1PM PT, link to House of Prog:https://houseofprog.com/

Lastly, but certainly not leastly, later that day Aural Moon, the first station to air Tom's music, had "The Tolling of St John's Bells," which appeared to be a request.  Aural Moon is also rotating out there all of the time and plays lots of great progressive music and a lot of fusion as well.  Link to Aural Moon:  http://auralmoon.com//

As we move along into 2022, thank you to all of you who still play Tom's music, who still play music yourselves and who bring art and light to others.

These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

Attention Hamerheads!

From the Department of Musical Meteorological Forecasting Department, this important news arrived late last night.  Get ready to hunker down and listen to some progressive music while you're at it.

Yes, it does snow on Mars, rarely.  We enjoyed some over the weekend and more joy is apparently headed our way.  Also headed your way is some airplay of Tom's music on Alex Cruzeta's Monday Chemistry Sets, today, Monday, 27 December, on Deep Nuggets Radio.  Show will be airing from 5PM - 9PM PST, Prog Hour is the second hour-or-so in, expect to hear something Martian fairly early during that time.  Last month, Alex also played "God and the Flatlanders (Waltz Version)," on his show of 22 November.   Link to Deep Nuggets:  https://deepnuggets.com/

AZUSA Progressive Rock Radio continues to play Tom's music on rotation.  "Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats," "The Tolling of St John's Bells," "Catherine," and "A Bookwife's Dream of Her Own Imposter: Dedication," all showed up on 19 November, 29 November,  9 December, and 16 December, respectively.  AZUSA plays progressive rock exclusively, 24/7.  Link to AZUSA:  https://progressiverockazusa.com/

Friday Night Progressive, with Ron Marquiss at the helm, aired the entire "Wayfarer Suite," on 19 November.  FNP is on every Friday, 6PM - 8PM PST and features many fine indie artists as well as a very dedicated chat room following.  Link to FNP:https://fridaynightprogressive.com/

Mike Sherrill over at W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation on Spreaker continues to play Tom's music.  Since the last Martian Mail, "Remains of Childhood Lost," "Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats," "Cows Appear Out Of Nowhere," the "Forks Suite," and "Forward," appeared, on 20 and 27 November, and 4, 11 and 18 December, respectively.  The 18 December show included a great interview with friend Dyanne Potter Voegtlin regarding Octarine Sky, her new release.  She is also covering Tom's "Catherine," in a solo piano outing upcoming soon, in 2022.  WTAU airs on Saturdays from 4PM - 7PM PST on Twitch TV.  Link to WTAU:  https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

Stuffer White did a replay of a past show on 5 December, which included Tom's "Travels, Part 3," on Light Without Heat, also a Spreaker show.  Light Without Heat is on Sundays, from 4PM - 7PM PST.  We all hope that Stuffer will find time to do some new shows with 2022 just around the corner.   Link to Light Without Heat: https://www.spreaker.com/show/light_without_heat?fbclid=IwAR1NJV5zi1xWzF3RBKdjOx4p7AEpGt84B57Ddr2UgGR1rkJSF-bTaqL43I0

On his Space/Psych/Sometimes Prog show on Spreaker, Paul Higgins over at Aquarian Moons did a mostly-prog show on 11 December, wherein "The Remains of Childhood Lost," made an appearance.  Paul's excellent show airs on Fridays, 11AM - 2PM PST.  Link to Aquarian Moons: https://www.spreaker.com/show/aquarian-moons_2

DJ Tony over at House of Prog continues to play Tom's music fairly regularly during his show, which airs Saturdays from 10AM - 1PM PST.  On 27 November, "Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats," made an appearance, as well as "The Tolling of St John's Bells on 12 December.  Link to 24/7 House of Prog:  https://houseofprog.com/

Tenk Van Dool, wrote a wonderful review of "Spinning Through Eternity," for Bandcamp.  I am very grateful to Tenk for the support!  He has a new release, which you can pre-purchase on Bandcamp, if you so wish, under "Temple of Switches." Here is the text of the review:

Tenk Van Dool Rarely does a piece of music move one to tears, Toms work is chock full of dramatic and melancholy compositions that do just that. This is classical music for the guitar and keyboards that is timeless and important. Intriguing, aggressive and elusive yet delicate at the same time. It was difficult to pick a favorite track because they are all so great. Favorite track: Spinning Through Eternity.

Something slightly silly, here is the Spotify Wrap-Up of 2021 for Tom's music.  Yes, he is on Spotify, most of us sort of eschew it unless it's absolutely necessary, but here it is, for posterity.

135 Streams; 6.9 Hours; 30 Listeners; 13 Countries

At the very last, one of our group of friends has gone to join Tom in the stars, on Mars, wherever he may roam.  Another wonderful artist and friend, the very talented David Harrer (Beans Morocco), left this earth on 11 December.  If you didn't know him, you probably remember the wonderful sketch of Tom, playing his Strat, that Beans drew and I've used many times in bios, etc.  He was a kind and generous man, and those who knew him will surely miss him.

On that note, and as we end another year, be kind, tell everyone that you love that you love them.  Play music.

Thanks to all here who do come along and listen etc

These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

Attention Hamerheads!

From the Department of Lo and Behold, Then There Was Even More Airplay To Look Forward To Department:

Our fine friend, Alex Cruzeta, over at Deep Nuggets Radio, is planning an Artist Appreciation Show for today, Monday, 22 November and kindly has advised me that he will play a piece of Tom’s music on it.  His show, The Monday Chemistry Sets will be on air from 5PM – 9PM PST.  There is an associated FB chat group, if you would like to join.  Link to Deep Nuggets:https://deepnuggets.com/

In other news, just since last Friday morning, Tom’s music has appeared once, twice and even thrice.  I happened to catch “Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats,” on Progressive Rock AZUSA on 19 November.  AZUSA, you may recall is on 24/7.  Link to AZUSA:  https://progressiverockazusa.com/

A little later on 19 November, we were treated to the entire “Wayfarer Suite,” on Friday Night Progressive.  There were a lot of other great artists on that show and we enjoyed the chat, as we do every Friday night.  Friday Night Progressive airs from 6PM – 8PM PST every Friday.  Link to FNP:https://fridaynightprogressive.com/

Next day, 20 November, Mike Sherrill presented “Remains of Childhood Lost,” on his W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation show, which airs on Twitch TV every Saturday 4PM – 7PM PST.  What does WTAU stand for?  Come along to the show and find out.  Link to WTAU: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

A sad note, probably most of you know this, David Longdon has gone to the other side.  Tom introduced me to Big Big Train and loved their music.  If you don’t know them, you are missing one heck of a great band.  He, like Tom, has now gone into folklore.  Tell the ones you love that you do.

Thanks to all here who do come along and listen etc

These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

Attention Hamerheads!

From the Department of I Love It When I Get Advance Notice of Upcoming Airplay Department:

Our stalwart friend at Friday Night Progressive, Ron Marquiss, has deemed it that once again we shall be hearing a piece of music of Tom's on tonight's show, Friday, 19 November.  Ron's show is one of the best out there, with a solid following and airs from 6PM - 8PM-ish PST.  The chat room is usually full and always friendly, if you care to join in there.  Link to Friday Night Progressive:https://fridaynightprogressive.com/

In other news, Martian sighting occurred in the following locations since the last missive, beginning with "Remains of Childhood Lost," on Aural Moon 24/7 Progressive Rock Radio on 23 September. In addition to this play, Aural Moon keeps Tom's music on regular rotation, and "The Wayfarer Pt 1,""Catherine," and "Love Is Money," appeared on 24 October,  29 October, and 3 November, respectively.  Someone kindly requested "Spinning Through Eternity, as well, just last week.  Thank you so very much, you know who you are.     Link to Aural Moon:  http://auralmoon.com//

Steven Davies-Morris over at Deep Nuggets chose to play Tom's music twice on his Through the Looking Glass Show, which airs every Wednesday from 5PM - 9PM PST.  On 22 September, in memoriam, he presented both the "Burnt Peas," and "Bookwife's," Suites in their entirety, and again on 29 September, in honouring the anniversary of the releases of Tom's music in 2018, he presented "A Slight Overture of Sorts," and "Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats."  Both were accompanied by lovely comments before and after from Steven.  Deep Nuggets plays 24/7 rock and progressive music, link to it's website is here:  https://deepnuggets.com/

Mike Sherrill has continued airing Tom creations on his W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation show on Twitch TV.  To wit:  On 23 September, "The Tolling of St. John's Bells;" on 2 October, "The Keys;" "Nothing Ends, Nothing Begins," on 16 October; "Cows Appear Out Of Nowhere," on 23 October; on 30 October, "Ma & Pa Kettle Go To Hell; and lastly, but not leastly, "A Slight Overture of Sorts," on 13 November.  Mike's show airs on Saturdays from 4PM - 7PM PST. Link to WTAU: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

AZUSA 24/7 Progressive Rock Station has also continued rotational airplay of Hamer's music, I happened to catch it spinning twice, on 22 October and 8 November, with "The Remains of Childhood Lost," and "Staring It In The Face, Pt. 2," respectively.  Link to AZUSA:  https://progressiverockazusa.com/

Another milestone was reached, also, since the last Martian Mail.  On this Artist Appreciation Page on ProgArchives, on 23 October, the number of views went to over 10K.  Most of that is what most of you know already, it's just amazing to me that I reached that many views there, even though, of course, some are my own when I put in a new post, certainly not 10 thousand times.

As always, many thanks to those still listening, those who come along for the ride to the various shows.  These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

Attention Hamerheads!  Martian Milestone

From The Department of Important Anniversaries Department, this just in:

No, not airplay (is that such a thing on Mars?) today, just a milestone and very grateful thanks to be given.

Three years ago, these three recordings of Tom Kelly’s music were released.  It took just a little more than a year to sort through, compile and prepare all of this material.  I could not have done it without the help of David Hurst, who did all of the technical studio work and also all of the artwork, outside of the original artwork done by Joel Stafford on “Spinning Through Eternity.”  My grateful thanks to them and also to all of the people below, who have played or reviewed Tom’s music over the last three years.  Some have become particular champions, the music is still being played on quite a few of these and is still being added to new stations and hosted shows alike.  Grateful thanks especially, to Kevin Feeley, for being “the man who makes the introductions,” and also to Tatsurou Ueda, the first person to purchase the discography, which led me to the world of progressive chat rooms.

I wish to thank the following for including Tom’s music on their terrestrial and internet radio programs:  Jim Brennan at Aural Moon Radio, for being the first one to add Tom to his station; Tom Gagliardi at The Gagliarchives on Aural Moon and House of Prog, for being the first host to play Tom on his revered show; Rick Dashiell at The Rickter Scale on Delicious Agony; Archie Patterson at The Eurock Show on HiLo Radio; Kevin Slaymaker at Between 2 Worlds on CRMK UK and Brackley Community Radio stations; Geo Warner at Music for All Occasions on KSQD Santa Cruz Community Radio;  Peter O’Neill at Epic Mondays, Chuck Simons at ProgRock for Beginners, and Zap Niles at Progscure, all on Progrock.com; Bob Prigmore at The Prog and Rock Show on Beat Route Radio UK; Tony Romero at his self-titled Show  and Steve Swayne at The 7th House on House of Prog; Ron Marquiss and Stephen Speelman at Friday Night Progressive; Larne Peters at Larne’s Finest on Progalley; Cliff Pearson at Live from Progzilla Towers, Graham Harfleet at his self-titled Show, Emma Roebuck at Northern Star, Steve Petch at The Progmeister and Shaun Geraghty at The Prog Mill, all on Progzilla Radio; Jules at Prog Rock Nation on KTAL, Las Cruces Community Radio; Stuffer White at Light Without Heat, Anita Bhatia Higgins at Melo’s Prog Bazaar, Paul Higgins at Aquarian Moons and Mike Sherrill at WTAU PeaRidge Nation, all on Spreaker; Alex Cruzeta at The Monday Chemistry Sets & Steven Davies-Morris at Through The Looking Glass, both on Deep Nuggets radio; Dave Davis at Independent Share on Mixcloud; and Cliff Broyhill at Progressively Indie on Bandwagon Network Radio.

I would also like to thank the reviewers below for their time and energy in thoroughly reviewing the material and their thoughtful insights:

Review Snippets:

“This isn't music designed to be played gentle in the background as the musician meanders through, but instead this is music with direction and force which demands to be heard front and centre….it is a real shame Tom didn't get to release it during his lifetime, as this is incredibly enjoyable and any fan of crossover or symphonic progressive rock should seek this out.” Kev Rowland, Prog Archives ~ Link to Review: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=61010

Attention Hamerheads!

Hitting the  Mother Lode of Deep Nuggets, Don’t Be Late!

From the Department of Just Enough Notice for Advance Notifications Department:

It has come to the attention of my earses that Tom Kelly music will be appearing for a second time this week, and a double dose in the show.  I was just informed by Steven Davies-Morris that he will feature Tom twice during his show today, Wednesday, 22 September, on Through The Looking Glass, his show on Deep Nuggets Radio.  There is no podcast, so try to catch it live, if you can.  Show airs from 5PM – 9PM PDT.  Link to Deep Nuggets:  https://deepnuggets.com/

Earlier this week, Alex Cruzeta kindly also played music by Tom, on Deep Nuggets, on20 September.  He selected “Remains of Childhood Lost,” for his Monday Chemistry Sets show, which airs each and every Monday from 5PM – 9PM PDT.

Hope some of you can give a listen.  If you would like to chat, there is a FB chat group, under the “Through The Looking Glass Radio Show,” name.

See you there and elsewhere, thanks always for your support!

These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

Attention Hamerheads!

From the Department of Continuing Memorial Musical During The Month of Septembrance Department, word has arrived that today, Monday, 20 September, Alex Cruzeta is planning on including music by Tom Kelly on his Monday Chemistry Sets Show, on 24/7 Deep Nuggets Radio.  He is planning on a special double Prog Hour, which starts around the second hour in, show airs from 5PM – 9PM PDT.  Please come along and support the show, Alex doesn’t provide a podcast, this is live only, so catch it while it’s in progress!  Link to Deep Nuggets:  https://deepnuggets.com/

Since last week’s notification of the debut of Tom on Prog Rock For Beginners on Progrock.com, I have caught his music being played in the following places:

On 13 September, Progressive Rock Radio AZUSA included “Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats,” in rotation on it’s fine site, also a 24/7 Station.  Link to AZUSA:  https://progressiverockazusa.com/

As mentioned above, the Prog Rock for Beginners show featured a “submissions,” section, which was in conjunction with many artists that Chuck discovered via visiting Friday Night Progressive, which has been a stalwart champion of Tom’s music for well over two years now.  Airing on Progrock.com, Chuck chose to intersperse selections from Burnt Peas/The Tolling of St John’s Bells, on 14 September.  He chose “Burnt Peas (Parts 3 & 4),” “Burnt Peas Finale,” “God and the Flatlanders (Acoustic Celtic Version),” and “Staring It in the Face (Part 1),” amongst pieces by many of the fine artists who inhabit the world of Friday Night Progressive.  Chuck promises to bring back more of Tom’s music on future shows.  This show airs every Tuesday from 3:30 – 6:30 PM PDT.  Link to podcast in case you missed it:  https://podcasts.progrock.com/prog-rock-for-beginners/

On Tom’s “angelversary,” as a friend coined it, Bob Prigmore of his self-titled Prog and Rock Shows on Beat Route Radio UK paid tribute to Tom, selecting “God and the Flatlanders (Waltz Version),” on 15 September.  Bob’s show is on air every Wednesday from 10AM – Noon PDT.Link to Beat Route:  https://beatrouteradio.co.uk/

The “Burnt Peas Finale,” was heard on Jim Brennan’s Progressive Rock station, 24/7 Aural Moon, in rotation.  Aural Moon has continuously kept Tom’s music in rotation since Jim first added it back in January of 2019.  Link to Aural Moon:  http://auralmoon.com//

And, lastly but not leastly, after a week’s hiatus, on W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation, Mike Sherrill chose to play Tom’s “Love IS Money.  This show airs on Twitch TV every Saturday from 4PM – 7PM PDT.  The podcast can be found at this link:  https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

As always, thank you to so of you for your support, and for helping me to expand Tom’s audience and for keeping his music alive.  Being that the third anniversary is coming up for the initial releases, they've proven to have pretty long legs in a competitive progressive market.

These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

Attention Hamerheads!  More Martian News:

From the Department of Announcements New Radio Show Airplay Announcement Department:

Don’t miss this one! Not only Tom, but many other fine artists that I’ve had the pleasure to get to know in the past 3 years will be featured today, Tuesday, 14th September on “ProgRock For Beginners,” hosted by Chuck Simons on Progrock.com.  The show airs from 3:30PM – 6:30PM PDT and has a very active chat room.  Please stop by the chat if you’re so inspired.  Link to Progrock.com:  https://progrock.com/

September is a month of contrariness for me.  It is the month I released all three CDs, with the help of David Hurst in particular, devoting much time to preparing everything for publication, in 2018.  It’s also the time that I started to meet so many of you in the progressive music world and that has certainly been a pleasure.  It is also the 4th anniversary of Tom’s death, 15 September, 2017.  For those that wish to, I would like to invite you to play a piece of Tom’s music at 8AM PDT in his memory on Wednesday, for he loved nothing more than music.

Since the last missive from Mars:

The WTAU Interview show garnered a whopping 190 views, I have no idea how many were catching it live, but the chat room was full.  If any of you missed it and would like to see it, let me know, I have a saved copy and can share my Dropbox link with you.  It is 3 hours and with video, so takes some time to load.  Mike Sherrill played all of “The Suites,” in their entirety, plus “Cows Appear Out of Nowhere,” “The Bend,” “Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats,” “Catherine,” and featured Mistress Quickly’s “Violent Pig Plaster.”

Regular Airplay since 12th August:

Friday Night Progressive once again championed Tom and his music by featuring “The Forks Suite,” on the 13 August show.  FNP has a dedicated chat following and airs every Friday from 6PM – 8PM PDT.  Link to FNP: https://fridaynightprogressive.com/

In addition to the entire show featuring music of Tom’s, Mike Sherrill also played “Forward,” on 14 August, “The Wayfarer Suite,” on 28 August, and “Violent Pig Plaster,” on 4 September, on his W.T.A.U. show on Twitch TV.  Show airs Saturdays from 4PM – 7PM PDT and has a friendly chat as well as the fun of watching Mike as he spins the various tunes he enjoys.  Link to W.T.A.U.: https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

16th August saw the return of airplay for Tom on Between Two Worlds, airing on Mondays from Noon until 3PM PDT on CRMK Radio UK.  Kev Slaymaker saw fit to play “Catherine,” during his show.  Link to CRMK: https://www.crmk.co.uk/

DJ Tony Romero played “The Fork,” on his self-titled show on House of Prog on 21 August.  His show also has a very active chat room and is on Saturdays from 10AM – 1PM PDT.  Link to House of Prog:
https://houseofprog.com/

Onward in the current month, Aural Moon played “The Fork,” in rotation on Jim Brennan’s 24/7 progressive music station.  Please give a listen to Aural Moon, lots of great progressive and related music airs there.  Link to Aural Moon:  http://auralmoon.com//

AZUSA Progressive Rock Radio played “A Bookwife’s Dream of Her Own Imposter: Dedication,” on 9 September.  Sam Butters’ station is 24/7 and features a great mix of progressive rock.  Link to AZUSA: https://progressiverockazusa.com/

Lastly, but not leastly, Paul Higgins and his lovely wife, Anita Bhatia Higgins collaborated on his Aquarian Moons show on 10th September, generously airing the entire “Burnt Peas Suite,” on Spreaker.  Paul plays great space, ambient and psych on his show, which plays on Fridays from 11AM – 2PM PDT, also with a worldwide participation in his chat room. My grateful thanks to all who have listened.  These are also all good resources for those here who may be seeking friendly ears to their music.

Attention Hamerheads!

From the Department of Early Notices Department, this just in from where else?  Mars, of course.  You can tell by the photo.

I am delighted to announce this show to one and all, today, Saturday, 21 August from 4PM - 7PM PDT
Please join us as Mike Sherrill presents spaceship-loads of Tom Kelly's music.  I will be discussing some of the inspirations and backgrounds of the pieces here and there and in between.

I will eschew my usual listings of places recently playing Tom's music, as this is so close on the heels of the last missive from Mars.

The third year from the original release dates of the trio of recordings is already nearing.  To still be getting such regular airplay is a testament to the artistry of Tom, who, even though he had to leave, he didn’t go without giving those who appreciate it, some truly memorable music to keep.  See you on Saturday.

Attention Hamerheads!   Fan Mail From Some Flounder?  Crusader Rabbit?  Son of Mr. Green Genes?

From the Department of No, There Is Nothing Wrong With Your Television Set, Do Not Attempt To Adjust The Picture, It’s Just Another Transmission From Mars Department:  Yep, you guessed it, it’s merely news for those interested of upcoming airplay of Tom Kelly’s music and a brief recap of Martian sightings from around the third stone from the sun.

To whit:  Today,  Friday 13th (ooooooh) August, Ron Marquiss has kindly informed me that he will be presenting more music of Tom’s on Friday Night Progressive.  Following Tom, fellow friends, Tenk Van Dool's Temple of Switches, Nathan Ame's Sudler's Row, and The Marquess Catastrophy will be featured.  Not to mention many fine artists beforehand.  So don’t miss it.  6PM – 8PM PDT.  Stop by the chat room, if you’re so inclined.  Link to Friday Night Progressive:  https://fridaynightprogressive.com/

Truly advance notice of a very special show also upcoming.  Mike Sherrill, who hosts W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation has kindly bestowed an honour of an entire episode devoted to Tom and his music.  I will also be interviewed during the show (thank the heavens it’s not on a stage).  This will be on Saturday, 21 August 4PM – 7PM PDT, on Twitch.  There will be a reminder of this, next week.  Link to WTAU:  https://www.twitch.tv/wtaupearidgenation

In airplay that I managed to catch here and there since the last missive from Mars:

Alex Cruzeta over at The Monday Chemistry Sets on Deep Nuggets decided to send some “Sloppy Love At Bodie Flats,” out over the netwaves on 26 July.  Alex’s show is on Mondays, 5PM – 9PM PDT, here is a link to Deep Nuggets:  https://deepnuggets.com/

Progressive Rock Radio AZUSA has featured Tom several times, including on 29 July, with “Love is Money,” then on 10 and 11 August, “Remains of Childhood Lost,” and “Burnt Peas (parts 1 & 2),” were played, respectively.  Link to 24/7 AZUSA:  https://progressiverockazusa.com/

Aural Moon, another 24/7 station aired Tom on rotation on 30 July, with ”Burnt Peas (Part 4),” and on 6 August, “A Bookwife’s Dream of Her Own Imposter.”  Aural Moon can be found here: http://auralmoon.com//

A replay offered by Stuffer White on 8 August on Light Without Heat included “Nothing Ends, Nothing Begins.”  Light Without Heat is on Sundays, 4PM – 7PM PDT.  Link to LWH: https://www.spreaker.com/show/light_without_heat

Lastly, but not leastly, our friend, Mike Sherrill regularly plays Tom’s music on his W.T.A.U. Pea Ridge Nation show, which is aired every Saturdays from 4PM-7PM PDT.  For his 31 July show, he chose “Gold and the Flatlanders (Celtic Version), and on 7 August “A Slight Overture of Sorts.”  Link already shared above.

Thank you, as always, to all of your support over the years, jeeze, the third year from the original release dates of the trio of recordings is already nearing.  To still be getting such regular airplay is a testament to the artistry of Tom, who, even though he had to leave us, he didn’t leave us without some truly memorable music.  See you on Friday.
