That's over 93 minutes!

A
Darkness (11/11)
Afterwards
Pioneers Over C

B
A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers

C
The Sleepwalkers
My Room
Cat's Eye/Yellow Fever (Running)

D
Meurglys III (The Songwriter's Guild)

Does that either mean you like Refugees an awful lot or that you only like Refugees by VdGG (or none of the above)?

Argh. I love these threads as anyone else does, but they pop up far too fast! Probably need a week or two for those that I'd still love to do...

Necromancer
A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers
Colossus
The Wave
House With No Door
Shikata Ga Nai
Childlike Faith in Childhood's End
Darkness (11/11)

Chances are I'm a somewhat strange VDGG listener; Godbluff is their highest rated album and despite otherwise being a fan of the band, that one completely passes me by. Actually researching for this I realise that I like every song of Still Life, Quiet Zone/Pleasure Dome, Pawn Hearts and The Least We Can do (with one exception) more than every song on Godbluff. What's wrong with me?

This is a tough one.

I'd go with:

1. Darkness (11/11)
2. House With No Door
3. The Sleepwalkers
4. Still Life
5. Vision
6. Aquarian
7. Cat's Eye/Yellow Fever
8. Man-Erg

I love these Make Your Own Album threads too, but I was a bit late coming to the party last September, so I'm now going back and seeing what I missed out on before I arrived here. I have a lot of work to do in putting together my ideal Van der Graaf Generator album though, because I only listened to VDGG for the very first time on Christmas Day.  I have a lot of listening to do to choose my favourite eight VDGG songs from eight different albums. Smile

Wow! That was fast! It took me at least 12 hours to listen to Van der Graaf Generator's first eight albums twice over and then pick my favourite track from each album, but it was great fun too. Smile

As a person whose entire forum identity is based on Van der Graaf Generator, I feel entitled to go beyond eight tracks, instead choosing to create two separate albums corresponding to the Early Period and Late Period music. I still obey the rule of one track per existing album, though I have also included tracks from compilation albums, but not those that are also on studio albums.

Early Period:

1. Necromancer (The Aerosol Grey Machine)
2. After The Flood (The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other)
3. Lost (H To He, Who Am The Only One)
4. A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers (Pawn Hearts)
5. Blackroom (Time Vaults)
6. The Boat of Millions of Years (I Prophesy Disaster)

Late Period:

1. Scorched Earth (Godbluff)
2. Still Life (Still Life)
3. A Place to Survive (World Record)
4. The Sphinx In The Face (The Quiet Zone / The Pleasure Dome)
5. Manuelle (Present - CD 2)
6. (We Are) Not Here (Trisector)
7. Mr. Sands (A Grounding In Numbers)
8. Aloft (Do Not Disturb)

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.
