Hi,
Please consider Teramaze. Their new album is available at https://m.youtube.com/playlist?fbclid=IwAR0q4BWBJy0qrmzIYP7ZbeMH02pyLkJ4e7nF39Msw4Ubs6ALUN4Fqe-AxR8&list=PLz8ufS3KEgcZ_YgJaEeD51S_DHj0itgSH If you believe it doesn't meet rules and regulations, I'd like to understand why. Thanks, Peter Antony |

IMO they are in their core a technical melodic power metal band. They have refined their sound further towards prog-related and their last album (Halo? if I remember well) was borderline. There is still so much of the cliche power metal going on in their sound which is probably why they have been rejected a few times.
The metal team could possibly have another look at this - rather than creating a new thread I would suggest reviving an older one.

It should be noted that older threads are auto-locked, so to revive an older one one would have to ask an Admin to unlock it first (this might take some time, but I do get PMs to unlock threads now and then).
The forum search engine can take a little while to get the hang of, but you need to use Advanced search, then change the field from yesterday to any date (there's a bit of a learning curve here). EDIT: Here are past Suggestions: I will unlock one of these if you think it helps with the evaluation of the newest album, but as it's only the newest album, Are We Soldiers that could count at this time from my understanding, I don't see much point. Can always use those links to refer to any past discussion. By the way, one should always try to suggest a possible subgenre in the topic title and it's good to try to present a case for why you think something should be added rather than just asking to have it explained if it isn't included. That said, of course there's a learning curve there as well, and you're new here so its perfectly understandable (that's a way to better get to know how things work around here and to understand members thinking). It's good to provide as much info as possible, including hyperlinks, ideally, to various other sites when making suggestions (basically, the more effort/ thoroughness you put into preparing your suggestion, the better the chances quite often). Here is the rateyourmusic page: https://rateyourmusic.com/artist/teramaze Welcome to the forum, Peter, and I hope you stick around (lots of good and fun discussion to be found here on a wide variety of issues).

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

I've been on this site for a long time, and registered just to say that it's frankly rather criminal that this band keeps getting rejected yet bands like Periphery are accepted on here. Their latest release is one of the best this year. Take a listen to Orwellian Times and tell me that isn't straight up prog metal. Also, Teramaze has been invited to play ProgPower twice, yet they are being excluded?
"IMO they are in their core a technical melodic power metal band." OK, please remove Michael Romeo's War of the Worlds. |

I'm mostly following PA's stylistic guidelines, but in this case I must disagree. If Voyager is prog metal, clearly Teramaze is as well.

I actually agree, although I dislike the argument, if X is this then so is Y . I think based on the bands last two albums, they deserve a re-evaluation. If they get rejected again, so be it.

I'll send it through the PM charts again, but honestly, from the previous comments I've read from previous votes, it doesn't sound like things have changed much....it's pretty much decent power metal with hints at progressive sound here and there. We'll see if the others are swayed one way or the other at this point.

Thanks, both of you for being willing to take it up again.
I really hope VOLA will be reconsidered, seems Applause of a Distant Crowd wasn't part of the evaluation last time. At least crossover or something... --------- Now you're at it, Haken could be moved to prog metal, where they belong, whereas Sieges Even could go into heavy prog... 😉 😉 😉 |

I agree about Haken. Sieges Even is progressive metal, it should remain there.

It's also not the first time it's been rejected. It was rejected before with a different PM team.

I reckon there’s no judgment about being good enough. Only about being prog enough. So I’ll have to build more resources for finding music when I can’t trust PA to find a band like this for me. (I have no real life support as nobody I know hear these sorts of music).

PA is still the best place to find about prog bands etc. If you like progressive metal, start a thread and discussion. I have listened to plenty of it. I can say I can help.

I think PA is probably still the best place to find about prog bands, in general, but when it comes to specifics like prog metal, then it’s not so great. I definitely know and listen to far more bands that I would call prog metal, and which are generally considered to be prog metal outside PA - but are not present here. And often, it’s not because they haven’t been suggested, but because they have not been accepted. If someone is particularly into prog metal, PA is definitely not the best place to look, in my opinion. There’s plenty here - but there’s even more that’s not. (And while you could argue that is the same for all genres on PA, I think some are more “exclusive” than others.) But, as Cristi says, if anyone is looking, you can always post in the forum and there will always be people who can recommend bands that fit the bill, even if they don’t fit PA. 🤗 Edited by nick_h_nz - January 08 2021 at 12:29 |

The way that PA uses to determine whether an artist should be included in the Archives is quite fair. The members that take the time to review the bands that are suggested are well-versed in their knowledge of progressive rock and, in the case of progressive metal, well-versed in that genre. Everyone has their opinions, which is why we allow team member voting.
Out of all of the times that this band has been suggested, there has only been one "yes" vote for their inclusion. All other votes have been "no", not even a suggestion to be moved to another genre. The fact that this is not the first time they have been rejected shows an overwhelming opinion about the matter. This is not to say that the band doesn't have some progressive elements or that the band is not worthy to be reviewed again upon release of another album. At this time, it is felt among the majority of the team feel that they are not to be included.

I wasn’t having a go at any member of the prog metal team, nor suggesting their decisions are ever unfair. PA has a very rigid definition of prog metal, and there is nothing wrong with that.
I have never heard a single song from Teramaze, and had always assumed they were just a power metal band. Appearing at ProgPower would never dispel that notion, as the festival is named because it brings together bands from the prog and power metal bands. Some of the bands are one, some are the other, and there are some bands who have a foot in both camps. But there is no doubt that there is a broader view of what constitutes prog metal outside PA, hence why I suggested that, in my opinion, PA is not the best place to look for prog metal specifically. That was not a criticism of PA. I don’t have a problem with the boundaries it has drawn, or with any of the bands it has rejected. It’s not often I can’t see why a band is not accepted into PA, when that occurs. Conversely, I can sometimes understand why others do not see this, as they are aware of the band’s prog metal cred outside PA. Edited by nick_h_nz - January 08 2021 at 14:38 |
