The three things I really love about these bands are:
1) the fast jazzy drums 2) very melodic guitar (focus 2, the snow goose, air born, Sylvia) 3) intense faster sections (Freefall, round goes the gossip, lunar sea, Dunkirk) So any bands, albums or songs that fit that criteria, send them my way |

For me the epitome of that 'Freefall' sound is of course 'Khan...Space Shanty.'
Some of the 'Caravan' and 'Hatfield and the North' have similar music at times. I was also going to mention Happy The Man..... ;)

Khan's Space Shanty — brilliant choice. A classic! I like this one, too. |

well, for a Camel lover, Anyone's Daughter, the superb German symphonic band from the end of the 1970s/early 1980s is a must. Most of those qualities are captured in this suite

How about Jade Warrior. They follow the guitar and flute model of Focus and Jethro Tull. Their drums might be jazzy or World Music influenced.

Try these Cordon Bleu by SOLUTION (on the soft jazz side, good singing imo) Softs by SOFT MACHINE (instrumental, jazzy and dynamic) ... then tell me how you tasted it - in case I can be of more help

here is another, a self professed Camel inspired band with a Camel inspired name. Their first albums rips off a lot of passages but their second album rivals the bets of Camel. Here is the title track but it's all good
this one is about being a fan of Camel Edited by kenethlevine - September 16 2019 at 08:30 |

yup, love Mirage...and thanks for including Asia Minor. they came up on my shuffle yesterday and immediately thought of this thread. Between Flesh and Divine is a FANTASTIC album that Camel lovers are likely to enjoy, but many others would too

just also thought of Sebastian Hardie and their album "4 Moments" as being somewhat similar to FOCUS, particularly the entirely instrumental side 2. This piece is my fave, curiously called "Openings" and being the last track of the album. The mellotron solo in the middle, and the wild abandon guitar solo near the end are especially fantastic

Sebastian Hardie sounded a lot like Yes to me(circa TFTO)but there's probably some Camel in there as well.

yes I have heard that too, but I think they are not as dense, busy or complex.
