Here is a choice I was recently forced to make, which put me in considerable psychological distress. I was driving to work when both Steely Dan - Hey Nineteen and ELP - I Believe in Father Christmas both came on the radio on different stations at the same time. Which one would you have chosen?

Surely not the best ELP song, but I like them too much.

Hey Nineteen is far from the Dan's best, but I really don't like seasonal songs by rock groups.

This needs another option "I don't listen to the radio".

I quite like the Christmas song but I LOVE Hey Nineteen. But then, there's not much of snarky Fagen in that period that could go wrong for me. "Hard times have fallen, soul survivors/She thinks I am crazy but I am just growing old"

So presumably we are talking about the alternative version on Works Volume Two without orchestra? The original was a Greg Lake solo release (although co-written by him and Pete Sinfield).

I would rather listen to a radio commercial than Hey Nineteen.

Hard situation to be stuck with. Thank God I don't listen to radio anymore. That being said, I would go with ELP, though Steely Dan is a great option

Or “My limo driver doesn’t like Prog”. I used to listen to nothing but CDs or NPR in the car, but here in Oklahoma the dirt from the dirt roads I frequent, including the one I live on, has gotten up into the dashboard and has rendered the CD player unusable. Doesn’t everyone have this problem? Anyway, I hear occasional well known Prog tunes on the radio. When I can’t stand what’s on, I’ll change the station to a Public radio station and hear either NPR or Classical music. |
